Tressel: Pryor will play in '08

Asked whether he would consider using a two-quarterback platoon, similar to one Florida employed two years ago on its way to a national championship, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel seemed all but certain that Terrelle Pryor occasionally would spell returning starter Todd Boeckman. Penn State and Michigan, both unsettled under center at this point, were the bridesmaids in the Pryor sweepstakes, which carried on past national signing day. And yesterday coaches Rich Rodriguez of the Wolverines and Joe Paterno of the Nittany Lions were short on praise for the player from Jeannette, Pa. In fact, their responses to questions about his expected impact sounded a lot like sour grapes.

The coach does what he has to do to win. Still, you need consistency, and a team RYTHM to win.

It still seems as if Pryor made a mistake in attending Ohio State. With Rich Rodriguez bringing the spread offense to Michigan and Pryor looking like the odds on favorite to start day one, it seemed like a perfect match. It'll be interesting to see how Pryor meshes with Tressel's no nonsense approach. If the attention-grabbing signing day actions are any indicator, Pryor loves the spotlight.

"I only talk about the players that play for Michigan," said Rodriguez, entering his first season after suffering through a public divorce with West Virginia. "That's my standard response on that."

Doesn't sound like sour grapes. It sounds like a reasonable policy. Especially when lots of coaches are making stupid comments lately. It sounds like sour grapes that the reporters were not able to stir up a bigger controversy than they already have. What praise were they supposed to give Pryor? He hasn't played a single down in college football yet.

Pryor might be a huge bomb, how about figuring out if he has any game before anointing him the new QB...

News flash! The "vest" has spoken! My opinion is still that Pryor played the media and fans. He knew all along he would wind up with the "theee Buck-nut U". As far what the other coaches say, what's the point? He didn't wind up with their programs. Oh well! KRB made a valid point, this kid hasn't played a down yet, he could wind up being a over hyped bust. He (Pryor) is playing for the Bucks, move on! There has to be more interesting stories out there to print besides this piece of literary achievement.

KRB, I couldn't agree more with y our post. Another T&R non-story

July 25, 2008  08:43 AM ET

In addition to running the ball, I can see Pryor running reverses to Saine, and short passing routes.Bausermann has the best gun of the 3 QB's, though. He will be interesting to watch, also.

Great post KRB. I cant stand when they put these guys on pedestals before they even take 1 snap!! and I would think that Joe Pa comments would have sounded more like sour prunes.

Spot On KRB
Let's let the guy actually play a bit before any of the other nonsense comes up.
I'm guessing the sun hasn't gotten through the windows of the trailers yet, I don't see any SEC cr*pola yet about how it doesn't matter becasuse the Big Ten isn't any good

Why am I reading news from Phila about my hometown coach. If there was something substantial to report about Pryor, Coach Tress, or any of the other Buckeyes, wouldn't the Dispatch put it out?

FEAR THE VEST!

This is pretty exciting news. It's not every year that some new kids play college football.

I'm also shocked and appalled that Paterno and Rodriguez did not have the decency to talk about Pryor possibly playing for OSU for at least 2 hours a piece (1 hour on Pryor, and at least 1 hour on how great OSU is/was/and will forever be). Paterno and Rodriguez are HATERS.

July 25, 2008  09:24 AM ET

I'm so sick of hearing about T Pryor. I cant wait to watch UM beat OSU this year.

July 25, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Tell us something we didn't know Jim. We all knew Pryor was going to play this year.

July 25, 2008  09:31 AM ET

I hope you have a lot of patience jayhawk

July 25, 2008  09:51 AM ET

It didn't take long for 4vr to be the first, did it?

July 25, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Well considering he's the only inkling of speed that OSU has on their roster, he has to play.

Why do you think Pryor went to Ohio State? He's faster than everyone in the conference, and he'll look like a superstar playing against inferior oppenents (just like OSU).

Ohio State and the Buffalo Bills have something in common....a knack for losing championship games. What company!
