Canucks interested in Vermette

Whether it's contingent on Mats Sundin not signing in Vancouver is unclear, but the Canucks are reportedly interested in Ottawa Senators center Antoine Vermette. According to a report in the Ottawa Sun, the Canucks have kicked the tires on a deal for the 26-year-old restricted free agent who scored 53 points (24-29) in 81 games last season for Ottawa. Vermette will go to salary arbitration at the end of July and the Senators are apparently concerned he may be awarded $2.5 to $3 million. The other reason the Sens might be willing to part with the second-line scoring of Vermette is they are desperate to add some offence to their back end.

Location, money, then timing. Wondering, how come hockey players aren't arrested for assault more often? Just curious. In Canada you can even smoke pot on the street corners if it's for personal use. Canada....looking good mon!

Ottawa is going to be so toasted in the years to come based on the guys they keep losing that will keep them losing. Even their best asset (Alfredsson) will be approaching the down side of his career soon.
Which reminds me...none of you guys had Donald Duck GM Bryan Murray in the Wizard of Oz yesterday...In case you missed it. I had Crosby tagged as Dorethy.

An who exactly is Vancouver thinking about trading for Vermette? Sundin?
;-)

July 25, 2008  09:58 AM ET

Spiny- The whole idea of casting Sid as Dorethy is to start things up...LOL.
Especially when Otherone shows up!
I think Bettman could be that talking tree guy. He's thick as a stump and keeps throwing apples at the fans with his arrogance.
Hey there you go...Bettman can be the talking tree stump. New Character.
Sundin is the Wicked Whitches Crystal Ball for sure!

July 25, 2008  10:00 AM ET

BGM will be so disappointed that he can't have that roll (the talking stump)...but talk about type casting...however, this cast is limited to NHL employees only as I understand it.
Sorry BGM.

Oh...and there are some new comments on the Bruins Murray thread from yesterday in case anyone is bored with these today and has some time....

July 25, 2008  10:16 AM ET

These days the Canucks are interested in everybody! They're starting to sound like the Leafs did over the last few years!

July 25, 2008  10:41 AM ET

Wait...is this considered a Sundin thread? It mentioned him, so why not. Wasn't there a ban on anything Sundin? :-) I'm trying to remember, it goes like something you T&R.

Vancouver is just playing catch-up with Tampa. Tampa went out and tried to sign everybody they could and now Vancouver feels left out.

Bettman could take almost every role in the movie except the good witch and Dorothy, Brainless, heartless, short and wicked. We could fire him out of a cannon for the flying monkey part.
