Titans closer to Haynesworth deal

The Titans and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth have agreed on one thing: establishing incentives allowing the All-Pro to play himself out of the franchise tag next year is a good idea. Now the two sides must agree on what those incentives will be. If they can do that, Haynesworth will sign his one-year tender and join his teammates at training camp, which begins this afternoon. Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, could not be reached for comment on Thursday, but there are indications the two sides are within striking distance of an agreement. Still being debated is what Haynesworth -- and the Titans -- must do in order for him to earn unrestricted free agency next season. Haynesworth's playing time percentage, his statistical achievements and the number of games the Titans must win are among the things being discussed. Such an agreement would allow Haynesworth to play himself into free agency next season or put himself in position to be franchised again if he fails to meet the stipulations.

You don't work and you don't get paid! How's that for incentive?!

The Titans need to put in a clause that if Haynesworth stomps on someone's head w/o a helmet that player get's half of his paycheck and gets his first born son.

Alberts first born son could probably eat you into the poor house. And would you really feel safe leaving Bobby and LouEllen around him?

Lol, true......you almost had it right, its Luanne

July 25, 2008  08:21 AM ET

The Titans need to "step" up the process and get him signed. They need to shoehorn him in to the contract.

July 25, 2008  08:29 AM ET

It will happen...I can't wait to watch the Titans this year....

July 25, 2008  08:41 AM ET

Step up instead of down, Albert.

July 25, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Go ahead and get the deal done Albert..Also, I don't want to see you doing scenes from "Stomp the Yard" again...

He will show up eventually!!! I just hope he doesn't show up and pull a hami on the first day. That would be real bad for our D line, Big Albert is the man on that line with out a doubt ,he is double team 95 percent of the time allowing KVB and hopefully the freak to get loose on a QB. GO TITANS!!

Why would you franchise someone who doesn't meet his goals and doesn't help the team win?

July 25, 2008  01:37 PM ET

Sign this guy... right now, best DT in the game. Also, include a clause that will force him to forefit his bonus if he cleats someone in the face.

He will sign he is a Real Tennessean and wants to play for TN. Albert is very entertaining to watch. Allot like Conrad Dobler was in the day.
