Russian teams interested in Biedrins

A source close to Andris Biedrins said European teams are hot and heavy after Biedrins. The Latvia native is drawing strong interest in a couple Russian clubs, according to the source, who added that teams are willing to sign him for three to five years for what amounts to more than $10 million a year. Biedrins' camp, which was rumored to have its sight set on the ballpark of Chris Kaman's contract (five years, $55 million), likely won't be elated about the offer they're likely going to get from the Warriors. I would be shocked if it even equaled Corey Maggette's average of $10 million a year. Just looking at the numbers, I'm thinking six years, $48 million.

Do svidaniya, Andris! Take the money and run.

that pretty good for a sh*tty player

July 25, 2008  09:29 AM ET

It's only matter of time when will some franchise player sign with club from Europe.
Andris, dobro do??a nazad u Europu.

What's even more sad than this is that Russia's economy is far better than America's right now, and it has come to a point where it's affecting the sports world giving NBA players huge contracts to improve their basketball leagues.

July 25, 2008  10:58 AM ET

Russia has a paid basketball league??

July 25, 2008  11:08 AM ET

'Where have all the players gone" is a song that the NBA is likely to sing soon.

July 25, 2008  11:27 AM ET

I'm sure the Russian mob runs all of these basketball teams. That's why they can offer so much money. Maybe they should go after Kobe Bryant or Lebron James next.

July 25, 2008  12:04 PM ET

I don't think there is anything to be concerned about. These guys didn't come here for basketball. They came for the money. With all things being equal, he'd rather be at home. I really don't think we have to be concerned about a top tier player opting for Europe.

Surprised more teams aren't interested in this guy. He is a quality big. Runs the floor like a gazelle and has good hands. No type of jumper and he still lead the league in field goal percentage last season. His post game is that good tho - on both sides of the floor. Mully better pay the kid, he's worth it.

Hllywd: Old Schoolin' please shut up. You showing no respect for team basketball and zone defense. US athletic freaks can't shoot beyond the arc and they must shame because it.

July 25, 2008  12:34 PM ET

"take the money and run", gee how original.

July 25, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Are you serious??

You're part right. I have little respect for a zone defense. A zone usually means that you can't match up one on one. As far as shooting beyond the arc, there are a number of players that are quite accurate, but it's still a low percentage shot, and not the shot you want with the game on the line. That's the shot you settle for.

July 25, 2008  01:59 PM ET

yeah Zone is a way because you don't know how to guard a superstar so u clog up the lane pretty much...

Twiz

No comment on GS getting a backup Marcus Williams and attempting to lure Williams from Philly????

They arent going to play Ellis at PG if they are smart

July 25, 2008  02:03 PM ET

Twizlamic is right on the money about Andris. He's also real young and just keeps getting better. The Warriors should lock him up just like they did with Ellis. He's worth it.

July 25, 2008  02:04 PM ET

If he leaves, 30-52

With him, they will be 40-42 after Baron bolted and they have too many swingmen

July 25, 2008  02:05 PM ET

Smart keeping Azuibike

He has more potential than Pietrus and they are very similar in style and play

July 25, 2008  02:23 PM ET

And he provides strength and scoring of the bench and has a good 3 point shot...
