Bucs leading Favre derby?

Dawn broke on reporting day for the Bucs with Tampa Bay way ahead as the speculative front-runner in a Favre sweepstakes that won't end until the Green Bay quarterback retires again or is traded somewhere else. When that end will come is still difficult to gauge, but with camps opening around the league this weekend, you get the feeling a conclusion will come sooner rather than later, perhaps even as soon as today. The Bucs have discussed a trade for Favre with Packers officials, but it remains unclear whether those talks are heating up, cooling down or even ongoing. One potential hang-up could be Favre himself. Because he has yet to file for reinstatement, no one is sure whether he actually wants to play. Also unknown is whether Favre would be willing to accept a trade to the Bucs.

I wonder what the Bucks are willing to give up, besides Simms. HA!

This is still old news as it has been reported on now for 3 or 4 days. Rehash it when he ACTUALLY signs the contract!

They should package Simms and Gruden along with all the free l team cell phone minutes Favre can handle, and obviously unlimited texting.

July 25, 2008  08:27 AM ET

Puhleez...

July 25, 2008  08:27 AM ET

We have enough QBS onthe roster already...maybe we can trade Plummer...

July 25, 2008  08:28 AM ET

Man..play or not play...what a jerk. Hey he wants to play, and Packers want to get the best deal. Whether toaccept a trade. Hey Brett you are begging to come back two weeks ago. Opps now he he not sure what he wants to do. Face it Brett you are 38 alot of teams have developing QBs and don't want to doom their future for a QB who will play 1 year, maybe 2. Man my 10 year daughter is more grown up than you Brett. Make a decision of gop back to mississppi and quietly fade away

JWHY#97 | 07/25/08, 07:55 AM

I agree, you can't have a clipboard without holes.

July 25, 2008  08:35 AM ET

BoBo,

You funny.

July 25, 2008  08:37 AM ET

The saga continues.....

July 25, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Favre is going to end up in Minnesota - either directly - or in a 2 step transaction. If he ain't in MN, he is paid 15 million to hold the clipboard for Rodgers and cause immeasurable damage to the Pakers' season

Why would the Packers want to hurt their own chances by trading Favre to a division foe they have to play 2x a year? GB could get value by trading Favre away from the division and getting picks and/or players in the trade. None of what you say makes any sense. TB on the other hand does make sense. Gruden needs to win big this year to keep his job and he's quite unsure about his Qb situation.

July 25, 2008  09:25 AM ET

PS As for a two-step transaction: you don't think the Packers are clever enough to prevent him from winding up ultimately with the Vikings or Bears? They may eat a lot of cheese in WI, but they don't have cheese for brains.

*sigh*

another day another brett story. at least it got the media's attention off chad johnson for awhile.

July 25, 2008  09:40 AM ET

its fine that he is going to get traded there, he isn't going to wearing a bucs jersey when the BUC's are going to trade him to the vikings anyways

July 25, 2008  09:43 AM ET

GO AWAY!!!!!!!!ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

July 25, 2008  09:44 AM ET

If he comes near me i will solve the problem for sure. He would be tasty after few days under the water!

July 25, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Someone said that Brat is a cold weather QB. Well, we've seen what kind of performance he put on against the Giants in his own barn in cold weather. The Packers couldn't find a way to keep his blood warm during that game in Green Bay. He was shivering like a wet dog on the verge of hypothermia! So, yeah, Florida or Louisiana would be a good place for him.

Garcia's wife wouldn't mind getting some face time with Deanna from NFL LIVE - can you imagine the two of them in the same suite watching a game together. There would have to be a split screen.
