The Rays still don't like the asking price on Xavier Nady and appear to be turning toward the Indians' versatile Casey Blake.

Tough........

July 25, 2008  07:12 AM ET

i hope the pirates keep the team together. i still think they are going to surprise some people the rest of the season...

July 25, 2008  07:16 AM ET

I hate when teams come out publically and say they don't like another team's asking price for a player....boo hoo. It's THEIR player and they set the price as they see fit. Don't like it, move on, stop complaining...

and that goes for every team, not just the Rays...

July 25, 2008  08:17 AM ET

Take Blake- the Pirates are asking WAY too much for some of these guys...

July 25, 2008  08:25 AM ET

efff the Rays...It's a Sox/Yanks weekend! ;)

July 25, 2008  08:25 AM ET

The Rays need to make a move or risk falling behind...the youth of the team is showing

July 25, 2008  08:34 AM ET

You don't like the price? Tough crunchies Love! The pirates have been patsies in the trade market for far too long...sorry guys, this GM doesn't **** and say thank you like the last one did.

Coming soon to T&R: more crying to the media from other MLB teams that aren't used to the Pirates having a non-gutless GM.

July 25, 2008  09:46 AM ET

My guess is that the Pirates really don't want to move any of their players, and that is fine. It appears they are only going to trade someone if they get blown away by an offer. For the Pirates sake, I don't think they should trade any of their cornerstone pieces. I've said it before, but I just don't think they are that far away from contending.

You one handsome son of beech!

I wouldn't look for Cleveland to put a small price tag on Blake either. He's their normal starting 3rd baseman that has been an RBI monger this year and since Garko hasn't been hitting his weight they've moved him to 1st with Marte, who is also struggling at the plate, starting at 3rd. Sabathia was let go because of the potential salary they would have to pay him come FA time after this season. They don't need to have a fire sale and get rid of Blake as well.

July 25, 2008  10:12 AM ET

Please, Pirates, please don't **** and trade him for less than he's worth like the last regime did. I'm sick of you guys losing! A die hard fan through 16 seasons of losing baseball, I'm kind of sick of seeing good players get delt for nothing.

July 25, 2008  10:49 AM ET

I LOVE it that opposing GM's are "grumbling" about the Pirate's asking price.

I guess they got used to year after yeare of bargain basement prices. Well guess what? If the price is too high, walk away and don't buy.

These guys are acting like the Pirate's HAVE to make them a reasonable offer. I see nothing wrong with the Pirate's saying "take it or leave it".

If I have a car I really like and someone wants to buy it, they better offer me more than it's worth to get me to sell it, not less.

It's about time the Pirates realized that the SELLER should have the upper hand when a contender is desperate to add the final pieces of the puzzle.

July 25, 2008  12:21 PM ET

I like Casey Blake.

July 25, 2008  12:23 PM ET

wow!!!! it is about time some other people out there realize that the pirates are only 1 or 2 players from being contenders themselves. all these teams that want any of our players better be willing to pay the price or forget it, you aint getting who you want......

July 25, 2008  02:18 PM ET

Pirates need a bullpen. It's disgusting how bad the bullpen here is. With the hitting the Buccos have now, even average pitching and they are above .500. That being said I look forward to watching them clobber the Padres again tonight.

July 25, 2008  02:33 PM ET

Don't like the price? Go shopping in your own farm club. That's what it is there for.

Hopefully this new management will stick to their guns and stop having the Pirates being the AAA farm club for MLB.

The main thing the Pirates need t d is examine the performance of their pitching coach. This is essentially the same staff as last year's staff. What happened?
