Lakers reserve guard Sasha Vujacic, a restricted free agent, is prepared to leave the team and accept an offer from a European team in the next few days if the Lakers don't make him an offer he deems fair, according to a source in the Vujacic camp who spoke only on the condition of anonymity. The source said Vujacic is seeking a multiyear deal from the Lakers averaging about $5 million a year. Vujacic was hoping for a six-year deal, but anticipated it could be a shorter contract.

That's really not going to be a big deal for LA. Unathletic white guys who can only shoot threes are a dime a dozen.

we are getting rid of all the annoying players in the nba, now we need to get rid of sam cassel and rasheed wallace and antoine walker

Wow, this is not good for the NBA

Tipton

He had a breakout year and is more athletic than people realize

Having said that, he isnt worth more than 3.5 to 4 mill and make it 3 years to see if he can keep it up AND improve his defense

I meant per year

But why spend even that much on a shooter like that. He only averaged about 8 points per game, and his others categories were limited to say the least. He is not a good defender (only 0.5 steals per game) and you can find someone else with that skill set for cheaper.

July 25, 2008  07:27 AM ET

I would rahter keep Sasha and let Luke Walton go to Europe

July 25, 2008  07:39 AM ET

Shooters are at a premium, Tipton

Matt Carroll of the Bobcats makes like 5 or 6 million..........

I am a shooter and I can stroke it with both hands.

To Vagisil or " The Machine-ry" . You dont hear Kobe fighting to keep his so called " teammates" where's the team spirit boy. Like Kobe always say " we need to get in a rhythm" " be in rhythm" " keep our rhythm" " feel eahc other rhythm" so all his temamates living will affect the team's " rhythm.

They had better make him the offer....he is one of the most passionate players on the team and with a little mentoring could EASILY come off the bench to a starting role.

Ammo is actually quite correct on this issue. If you had watched the NBA Finals (and some of the games from the earlier rounds), you would see that Vujacic played a _critical_ role in keeping the Lakers in many of the games.
They would not have lasted 6 games without him.

See ya....

I agree that he's physical, but he also flops a lot and the lakers know with the new rule change, he'll lose some of what make him desirable. Plus I hate watching him play. reminds me hinrich. plays really physical but complains when he has contact initiated against him.

On the larger issue of players going to Euro leagues - I think it benefits the sport of basketball as a whole.
In fact, I would like to see some superstars pack up and go to Europe in order to bring those other leagues closer to the level of the NBA.
Once that happens, then the "World Champs" for each year would have to be determined by a playoff series between the champions from each league. The competition would become global, somewhat like soccer.

A B C-ya... he's expendable

July 25, 2008  08:41 AM ET

Ya know what? This doesn't seem as bad as you think if you're a Laker fan........you've got Coby Karl stepping in and he is doing great this offseason. I mean, you could go out and sign someone like Quinton Ross, Mickael Gelabale, Kareem Rush, or Michael Finley to add some depth.

It's bittersweet for the Lakers. They get Bynum back, but they are losing Vujacic to a European league.
Looks as if the Lakers will always have some minor imperfections in their lineup.

They will go out and sign someone like Quinton Ross, Mickael Gelabale, Kareem Rush, or Michael Finley to add some depth at SG/SF. They will find a replacement easilly.
