Infighting hampers Dodgers deals

The Dodgers are diving into the middle of a lot of trade talks, but skepticism remains steep about whether they'll actually pull anything off. "They're a mess,'' one NL executive says, flatly. Several baseball people say there was a deal for the Dodgers either "in place'' for CC Sabathia -- or close to it -- when they suddenly pulled the plug, apparently at the behest of over-involved owner Frank McCourt. Word is the Dodgers, who could still steal the sad-sack NL West (at 49-52, they trail first-place Arizona by one game), are handicapped by some infighting within the front office. Logan White, who drafted much of the young Dodgers talent, is said by some to have unusual say-so for a recently-promoted assistant GM. Meanwhile, McCourt is telling confidants that he is displeased by the team's attendance and revenues, calling into question whether he'd even OK player expenditures.

LOL, gotta love Hollywood. Another wanna be owner who thinks he knows how to coach, buy, and trade professional athletes. Where have we heard that before?!

This is a joke right?

July 25, 2008  08:26 AM ET

Reaching.......

McCan't s worried about revenue and attendance? He should worry that there isn't an all out exodus of Dodger fans to Anaheim! LOL to you McCan't , it's obvious that Logan White (read draft results) should be the GM. Colletti, what a joke (read lost revenue in broken down players).
Accountability "used" to start at the top.

Sounds like they are a complete mess...... I wonder why Torre wanted to come and be part of this?

July 25, 2008  01:21 PM ET

Its a sad state of affairs when the higher ups are acting like 2 yr olds, while the team that wasentrusted to them is falling apart. If they don't get their act together and make some changes to that sorry roster they'll have no chance at the play-off again!!!!!!!!!

July 25, 2008  03:32 PM ET

McCourt is an A-$-$ so is that washed porn star Ned "boda-bing" Coletti. Why does Logan "all I draft is overated H.S. players" White even have say in the matter? I guess they'll have to continue to market the hell out of 1988 to death to get the fans coming

And it's safe to say that Clayton Kershaw like Chad Billingsly before him is not the "Phenom" the Dodgers have hyped him up to be. Nor is Andy Laroche a everyday 3rd Baseman. there are only 3 young players that are living up to the hype, Martin, Brox-TON, and Eithier, and they got Eithier in a trade. Also nice job with Andrew Jones, Tori Hunter said he wanted to play for the Dodgers but the Dodgers never contacted his Agent.

If it's not the dug out or clubhouse being the problem like last year then its the front office creating bad chemistry (this year). Attendance and revenue are not the problem. Every game I go to has an announced attendance of 20,000 more than the team deserves to have based on performance.
We, Dodger fans, just want a team that has a chance to win and is not eliminated from the playoffs by August.

July 25, 2008  06:12 PM ET

The Dodgers have quickly under, new ownership, become the "Mets of the West" !!!

July 25, 2008  10:51 PM ET

Oink

July 25, 2008  11:04 PM ET

Fact is, the Dodgers still have a great chance of getting Sabathia this winter.

Grossedout9, are you joking? The Dodgers' farm system is ranked 6th best in the majors, in terms of prospects, according to Baseball America (the authority on these matters). And that's despite the fact that they've brought up a ton of young studs over the last couple of years. Check your facts before commenting with a bunch of BS.

As for the rest of the debate going on here, Colletti is a god-awful GM, who likes to sign injured guys to big contracts, and who ignores statistical evidence of somewhat significant matters like "who's good at baseball, and who isn't"
