Cowboys may bring Glenn back

After months of haggling, the Dallas Cowboys decided Friday to part ways with veteran receiver wide Terry Glenn but not necessarily close the door. The Cowboys will release Glenn, but should his conditioning improve, the team would like to revisit the possibility of bringing him back in the fold at some point. Of course, Glenn would also have the chance to sign with another team. The Cowboys not only had concern about Glenn's knee and the financial commitment, but they also wondered if he would stop the progress of their younger receivers like Sam Hurd, Miles Austin and Isaiah Stanback. The Cowboys asked Glenn to agree to a split-salary agreement in case he reinjured his right knee during the season, but the veteran was unwilling to take a pay cut. He was scheduled to make $1.74 million this season.

I think he's done, Glenn may comeback if Austin or Hurd dont pan out.

She's done.

July 26, 2008  09:10 AM ET

wow...

July 26, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Shoulda signed the waiver, Terry.

July 26, 2008  09:32 AM ET

HAVE FUN IN MIAMI............. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WASTED 5 MILLION ON glenn LAST YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 26, 2008  09:54 AM ET

someone will sign him, soon.

July 26, 2008  09:58 AM ET

if cowboys bring him back it will be after week 1 when the contract is no longer guaranteed. I think someone will pony up veterans minimum prior to that though which is higher then 500k. thanks for the memories terry.

He counts $2.8 against the cap next year regardless..If he is healthy he will get what the Cowboys were going to pay( $1.75) anyways...Throw last year out the window, they are going to cap pay him next year no matter if, or for whom, he plays.
I think Jones got a little too personal on this one. For that kind of money he should have just let it be...
Sometimes you get your moneys worth sometimes you do not. He is not the only Cowboy that did not earn his salary last year..

July 26, 2008  10:03 AM ET

Yep, that was a waste. But I'm sure Jerry can afford it :)

July 26, 2008  10:22 AM ET

This is strange, but not surprising.

"your gone, your back, your gone, your back....is there an epidemic going around the NFL?

July 26, 2008  11:16 AM ET

This is bad, he stretched the field with his speed and was awesome over the middle. I recall a lot of gnashing of teeth over the microfracture surgery--guess in hindsight he should have had it, recovered and been ready. THis really soured and is costing both parties. Hurd, Austin, Stanback...???? WHO? SOmeone in that group must pick-it up in the training camp and without doing any research the first two have some expereince and should be showing more promise by now!
Again, Dallas is short a "second" reciever--Crayton is not that guy right now

July 26, 2008  11:22 AM ET

He may have stretched the field in the past but he sure isn't going to it this year. I think he cost himself a lot of money because teams will be leery of his knee.

Agreed. That $500,000 waiver he refused to sign may be all another team is willing to risk because of that knee.

July 26, 2008  12:53 PM ET

I have to agree with Jones on this decision. As much as I would like to see Glenn as a Cowboy I think the contracet is fair. They paid him a good salary last year as he did nothing but rehab and now the chance of the injury happening again is too great. If he finds a better deal somewhere else where someone is willing to take the greater risk then more power to him. I can't blame him for trying to get all he can. After all, he isn't getting any younger.

July 26, 2008  02:58 PM ET

Lots of work ahead for Glenn.

July 26, 2008  07:13 PM ET

They need to do something now. I agree Crayton is not the guy right now. If they do not pick up someone good then maybe when and if Adam Jones is reinstated they can put him out wide to help TO stretch the field.

July 26, 2008  09:08 PM ET

Glenn does not gave good head like T.O. does.

July 26, 2008  11:05 PM ET

She should have signed the waver.

He didn't catch 81 passes, or, score 15 TDs, like TO did in 2007, did he?
