Next order of business: Sign Marian Gaborik. After losing offensive weapons Brian Rolston and Pavol Demitra through free agency during the offseason, the Wild made sure that they'd have playmaking whiz Pierre-Marc Bouchard around for the next two seasons at least. The Wild and Bouchard agreed late Friday night to a five-year, $20.4 million contract that includes, according to assistant general manager Tom Lynn, a commitment by general manager Doug Risebrough not to trade Bouchard for at least two years. With the Bouchard deal complete, next on the team's agenda is to sign Gaborik, the team's all-time scoring leader, to a contract extension.

They didn't re-sign Demitra and Rolston. They neither have Gaborik signed through 2009/10 camapign yet. When prioritizing their players' contract extensions, do they use an alphabetical order?!

After losing Demitra amd Rolston they'll be lucky if Gabby even wants to sign let alone for anything below full market value. Why take a discount when managment wont keep a decent team around you.

Wild, thank you for re upping PMB's contract finally... i didn't mind losing Demitra but losing Rolston kinda hurts, but i think the influx of young talent that we have is going to make up for it. Wild may not win the division this year but they'll still make the playoffs. My big concern is that if Gabby doesn't resign would he be willing to return if lamaire is still coach.

I'd like to see Gabby stay and this team get somewhat rebuilt around Gaborik and PMB. They have a good young goalie and 2 very good players, now they just need to build a young core of players around them.

Agreed htownhockey#1, they have some solid assets to build around any team would love to have and the fan base!

Pierre-Marc Bouchard was an absolute must for the Wild after losing Rolston! I was surpised they let Demitra walk! Now they have to concentrate on extending Gaborik! They must have his services too!

Demitra was an injury prone player. He was never in their long term plans. Rolston leaving did hurt them though. Big time. He's a perennial 30-30, 2 way player. Rolston followed the cash though.

Gaborik is also injury prone, bgm, as are most flash and dash players. Yet it seems every team needs/wants those kinds of players. Players that will get the fans out of their seats once in a while. I agree with you about Rolston. That one hurt!
