- the WHOLE point of going to college is to get a good job AFTERWARD
- why should a kid be forced to go if he can go right from HS ?

The bottom line is the 1 & done rule is not for YOU -
it is so NBA teams don't have to RISK their draft picks on kids they've never seen play REAL competition. ESPECIALLY international kids

What ever happened to a school requiring 4 years for a college education? If the school is willing to fork over a 4 year scholarship (In effect losing money), why can't they require the student to complete at least 2 years of schooling? The school can't make it all up in ticket sales off one students ability. I guess sending an illiterate player to the NBA is the norm these days.

Lute Olsen suggested that they change the rule so that you can jump to the NBA from high school, but if you choose not to, you have to stay two years at the university you attend. I thinks I like that idea.

I totally agree with this rule. When they get to the NBA most of these players egos become inflated and no longer have passion because they think money means success, it does to some extent. Getting paid and doing your job well is distorted in the NBA. Do you want to move thousands of miles away from your family for money? Jennings did. Take a risk and do something somenone never did before.

Gone are the days that a recruit will play just for a scholarship to a top tier university in basketball. If you're a high school grad in any other sport, like soccer, baseball, hockey, gymnastics, etc.; you'd want that scholarship. Conversely, I think that since basketball is almost the only sport that athletes can get out in the first year, it should be the exception. You don't see any NFL team vying for the services of a freshman quarterback or linebacker because they just need more game experience and development.

It's a ridiculous rule.

Sure, Colleges want to keep star players in their programs longer - More big games for them. More TV ratings. More $$$ in their coffers. But they don't pay the players...so to try and force them to stay is absurd. NO other occupation does that. If a player is good enough to play in the NBA, he should be able to go, period.

Many of the top high-school and college b-ball players already have inflated egos. Leaving them in college another year (especially when they are nba talent level guys) won't put their egos in check. They'll egos will just grow because they'll be top guys in college. The reality check might come to some of them as rookies in the NBA when they see they are no longer king of the hill. It's up to the NBA coaches, the league, the summer league, etc to teach these kids how to adjust. It WON'T happen by keeping them in college.

just not to the NBA

they CAN make a living-
just not the cushy NBA life

the NBA is a business- they can hire whom they want-
and the longer it takes a kid to get INTO the league-

Since when is getting a FREE college education, FREE room and board, FREE food, FREE clothes, FREE healthcare, FREE workout facilities and FREE publicity considered NOT getting paid?

These star kids are just interested in the fame and money that goes with being an NBA player. Excuse me if I don't shed a tear for them if they have to wait a bit before being handed a ridiculous amount of money because they can play basketball. The rest of us have to earn our livings.

The truth of the matter is this, these kids are being deprived of the ability to make a living. If they can make money at 18 years old, Then they should have the ability to do so. In golf, hockey, and baseball, you have the ability to earn a living based on the hard work that you have put in to your new career. Basketball, and Football are only sports that have a minumum college requirement before you can go and play professionally. It is a way for the colleges, their coaches and boosters to continue to get paid off these kids and get their programs to go deep into March Madness for the mega bucks that are associated. That's the real truth here.

No one wants to see YOU play ball.
We do want to & PAY MONEY to see these athletes

It's too bad nobody wants to pay a mere $40K salary to a teacher to go help out 8 year olds in low-income areas. But yes, let's give the Indiana Pacers millions so they can shoot each other with platimnum bullets. Yep, those guys are the true heroes.
