Twins consider keeping Liriano

The Twins remain quiet on the trade front as the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline approaches, but there were indications that a shakeup could soon come from within. Rather than trade for relief help, the Twins have discussed promoting Francisco Liriano from Class AAA Rochester and moving a starter -- possibly Liriano himself -- to the bullpen. Liriano, Glen Perkins and Nick Blackburn are the main candidates for a relief role because all three have major league bullpen experience. No move is expected before today's series opener in Cleveland, but something could happen before Sunday, when Liriano is scheduled to make his next start for Rochester.

What the freak is this?!? You mean to tell me the Twins aren't even CONSIDERING doing anything with Bonser after his horrific season so far?!? It makes sense to ditch Bonser as he's a bust and put Liriano in the bullpen. I guarantee you Liriano will get 30% more strikeouts and will be easily a full 3 points lower in ERA than that waste. I mean, I hate trashing on my team's players, but come on! You can only beat a dead horse for so long. I think the last two seasons is long enough...

If you have a chance to make the playoffs, it would certainly make sense to make some move(s) before the trade deadline. If you have nothing to offer in return that another team wants.....your screwed.

Considering keeping Liriano? Absurd! It's more like it would take an unbelievable offer to pry him loose from the Twins.

Abou time the lame brains in the front office decided to do something. But you watch, the only starter that deserves to be ousted (Hernandez) will come out smellin like a rose. But knowin from past experience, any trade will include one of the young starters to get another over the hill veteren.

they should trade liriano to the tigers for cash and a player to be named later.

I always thought they should have traded Joe Nathan to either the Cubs or Dodgers and bring Liriano into the closer role. I don't think his arm will hold up for all the innings he would have to pitch as a starter. As a closer the most he would have to pitch is an inning or two. The Twins would have gotten some great prospects. In hindsight though...Joe Nathan is a great closer and an asset to the Twins as long as they compete.

Personally I think Liriano is a bust and the Twins should trade him to the Tigers for Robertson, Sheffield, Reteria, Fossum and Rodriguez. Maybe Leyland, too.

liriano a bust? hes DOMINATING the minor leagues right now. i have no clue why the twins havent recalled him. if u arent gonna use him, trade him for something useful.

Exactly, Have they forgotten how good he was? They should be doing everything they can to keep him. Talk about a short memory.
