Why Saban's happy he left NFL
Former Dolphins coach Nick Saban never was comfortable in front of a microphone. That hasn't changed. He still says things he shouldn't. He still squirms. He still reflects on his time in Miami, too. On Thursday at the Southeastern Conference Media Days, Saban said his brief stay with the Dolphins was a tough time for his family. ''It was a difficult situation for the Sabans,'' he said. ``This has nothing to do with any particular place. But we love college coaching.'' Saban coached the Dolphins for two seasons and went 15-17 before leaving South Florida for Tuscaloosa, Ala. One year after Saban left, the Dolphins had the worst season in their history (1-15). For Saban, it was a valuable life lesson. ''Sometimes you learn about yourself when you go places and do things,'' Saban said. ``We took a tremendous amount of criticism for that, and as hard as we tried to stay focused and stay on the task at hand, it was difficult at times.''

He left b/c he belongs back in college. He's happy that the whole Booby Petrino fiasco put his unprofessional handling of the Miami/'Bama situation in the rearview. Now he can go join the Spurriers, Petrinos and other coaches who crawl back to the NCAA.

It's amazing that any coach is successful in the NFL, when you have to deal with all the ego maniacs that have to be coached.

I love college football because teams like ULM can upset the Alabamas of the world. I used to like Bama but can't stand acts like Saban.

What is wrong with trying to make it at the top of your occupation or area, failing, realizing you're failing and unhappy, then moving on (back) to a comfortable level of achievement? Would you critics rather he stay in the pro game, stay a loser there, and be unhappy with it along with the players, fans and the organization? Seems to me some of you just want the man to stay miserable....no matter where he is. That is hate and immaturity.

sucks to be a player at that school, who could possibly get a free 4-year scholarship to play at Alabama, but now wont because the coach is shortsighted and refuses to let the school come in. Im sure he is letting all the parents know that any player that is now not recruited, he will pay their way through college since he is limiting their options.

Somehow I feel T&R staff will save this one as a template. In a matter of years/months they can just replace NFL with NCAA as Saban flip-flops again

He took a 4-12 team and turned them around to 9-7 in his first year. Fell back to 6-10 his second year when his expected starting QB stayed hurt all year. Yeah, thats just terrible. LOL.. whatever makes you all sleep better at night. I'm just glad he's at Alabama now.
But Saban bashers, ask yourself this.. If he was such a terrible coach then why are so many south Florida media, fans and ex-coaches so upset that he left?
