Manny eyeing Angels move?

Manny Ramirez is said by a friend to be "very, very frustrated'' over his contract, which includes team options for $20 million for both 2009 and 2010 and gives the Red Sox the power. Ramirez would prefer Boston to either extend him or release him after this year, allowing him to shop himself to all suitors. He is said by some to have his eye on the Angels, whose only obvious need is for another big bat and who may have Vladimir Guerrero coming off the books after the season. An Angels person said they don't expect to make any major changes before the July 31 trade deadline.

"Ramirez would prefer Boston to either extend him or release him after this year, allowing him to shop himself to all suitors."

that's all fine and dandy-
but much like the GB/farve situation.....

that isn;t good business for the current team.

I HATE the sox-
but they aren't dumb enough to let manny go to a rival like the angels.
that would be stupid.

Baseball players I'm sick of hearing about on this day, at 0700 hours, CDT, one half hour after I've gotton out of bed: Manny Ramirez. End list.

July 27, 2008  08:17 AM ET

I think Manny is on LSD. He is currently seeing himself as a pro NFL player who is holding out for training camp because of a contract dispute. He is an immature and a selfish player. BUT BUT BUT he is one heck of a good player. The SOX WILL NOT TRADE HIM. NO WAY. Not this late and no one would be interested. Oops. Maybe there would be teams that would be interested BUT he is just like Bonds. He attracts the whole media because of his antics but he earns his paycheck(like Bonds). But no way would the Sox trade him. They would go from a World Series Favorite to a world series spectator. Several teams would be interested.

1.) Angels- They could use him as a DH. I do not see them trading for him though.

2.) Yankees- or maybe not.

3.) Tampa Bay- Veteran Presence and World Series Experience.

4.) Every other contender out there

BUT no one would bite and his no-trade clause just makes it harder. The Red Sox would probably ask for someone that can provide right now and fill the Gap that he would be living (and it sure is a big one) and I just do not see anyone biting on that. Except for maybe Milwaukee who is really desperate to win right now(Sabathia and Sheet are most likely to walk away) But I think they are pretty descent in left field with Ryan Braun so they won't have any use for Manny. So it all leads to Manny being released after this season. If the Sox win it all again I can see him walking away and making big money somewhere else. They would not pick him up. They are better off spending there 20million somewhere else rather to a player who makes a circus every spring training and sits out for no reason when you need him the most. Case closed.

One more thing. Why not offer him for Matt Holliday? Hmmmm, makes perfect sense right? The Rockies who are still in it or at least that's what they think would get world series experience which they really lacked last year and the Sox would get almost the same production(Chill people I said almost) The Sox would be the obvious winner from the trade(younger, less media, more dedicated to winning) but the Rockies won't be losers. They get a Very good player in Ramirez. BUT BUT BUT He should be willing to waive his no-trade clause first in order for this to happen and that obviously is almost impossible. Beantown to Colorado is like Los Angeles to uhmm Colorado. haha. You get my point.

It's just Manny being Manny. Let him take the show somewhere else. This little whine job he pulls about this time every year is getting more boring as the years go on. Let the whiny little brat go cry to some other team because I ain't listening anymore.

He signed the contract and happily cashed the 20 million plus he was paid each year. As part of the contract the Red Sox asked for 2 option years to which Ramirez agreed. Now he wants the Red Sox to forego what he agreed to. Too bad. What happened to a player honoring his committment. Several years back Kirby Puckett signed a contract making him the highest paid player. Within a year 10 or so others signed for more. When asked if he would demand the Twins renegotiate his contract Puckett replied, I signed a contract and I intend to honor it. Class act and a class man. Ramirez should learn from him.

Dont they already have a bunch of overpaid outfielders in LA?

July 27, 2008  09:01 AM ET

Hes def DH ing there...but is Manny's bat worth all the other BS that comes with it

I remember when Manny was an Indian and he drove around in a beater car. spent his money on his mom and seemed oblivious to the trappings of riches. .....guess those days are gone. I'll be glad when his skills diminish enough so that we don't need to hear about him anymore.

The Angels have a good thing going. Why would they want to risk messing it up with such a high wire act....They are the team the Red Sox fear the most in the play offs. Why would they even consider a trade with them?

No offense to either party FMSD but the same could be said about Wanted Man.

July 27, 2008  09:56 AM ET

I think the Angels aret the team everyone fears. Aren't they either the only team or one of the few teams that has a winning record agaisnt the Yankees like in the last ten years or something silly like that?
Yankees have six games to play with the Angels. Gonna be a big indicator of things to come.

My point wasn't a manifesto. But if you want, go to the NFL side and read "Football players I'm sick of hearing about, this day, O700 hours, CDT, one half hour after I've gotton out of bed: Brett Farve. End of list."

Poiint...T&R, SHUT THE F*CKEN HELL UP ABOUT BRETT FARVE AND MANNY RAMIREZ.

July 27, 2008  10:36 AM ET

the Red Sox's and THEO would be stupid if they traded him to any one in the AL.. although given his isn't much with out big papi.. they can pitch around him

July 27, 2008  11:26 AM ET

Yea because the angels just CAN'T completely rip up the yankees pitching right now. I can't believe they are even considering Washburn as an option, he's a washedup left, no pun intended.

July 27, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Manny won't end up with the Angels. The Angels have an option on Guerrero for next season and will pick that up. Also owner Arte Moreno has always said there will not be another player on the team that makes more than Guerrero and since he will make around $16-17 million that rules Manny out at once. People have to realize a couple things about the Angels and why they won't win a World Series again for a while...if at all.....#1 they won't trade any of their "top" prospects....no matter how great a player they could get in return #2 they play National League ball in the American League and that doesn't beat the high powered high scoring American League in the playoffs.

July 27, 2008  11:41 AM ET

Hey 50yearfan....have you missed the playoffs over the last few years?...Boston fears the Angels most?....they've beaten them like nine games in a row in the playoffs. It's the Yankees that hate seeing the Angels not Boston.....the Red Sox own the Angels in the post season.
