In an earlier conversation with Packers GM Ted Thompson on Saturday, Brett Favre said he was led to believe he would not be allowed to compete for the starting quarterback job with Aaron Rodgers. Coach Mike McCarthy said strongly that Rodgers would be his starting quarterback this year.

He may start for the first two games and lose both then....what will happen? Think about it people. Are they gonna risk ruining this dude's mental capacities by sitting him at that point? Favre is gonna play this season and next and it will be for the Packers, because Rogers is like going to - not produce.

Packers fans will suffer behind this nonsense.

July 27, 2008  08:30 AM ET

I would like somebody to answer this question... cause I don't think there is a right answer...

When an organization's ultimate goal is to win.... make the playoffs, and go for the superbowl, how in the world can you choose to start a QB who has never started a NFL game over one of the best ever QB's, first ballot Hall of famer, pro-bowler, 3-time MVP, coming off one of, if not, his best season ever where he took his team within a whisper of the superbowl????

Please - come on Farve haters.... enlighten me...

did somebody photoshopped the background? he's suppose to be dropping a deuce in that pic.

So let me try to sum this up, Ted thompson has decided that the packers have been "bretts" team long enough, and this team will now belong solely to TT's ego, along with any accompanying spotlights, flashbulbs and media interviews.

To arrive at his goal, he's decided to turn away a QB that hadn't missed a game in 16yrs for a guy that can't play in one game without getting hurt....swapped a QB that took the youngest team in the NFL to the championship game and a 10/0 record for a QB that hasn't won an NFL game??

Packer fans will be very sorry a few games in to this season for picking the "wrong horse" and that horse is Ted Thompson !

July 27, 2008  09:16 AM ET

I'd like to add, If the pack was 3-13 last season and they were "rebuilding" I could see living and dying with your young inexperianced QB for the benefit of your long term future. But, were talking about a team that was 1 game from the bowl and the QB that took them there.
What, other than their GM's ego could be the reasoning for "rolling the dice" at your teams expence ??

July 27, 2008  09:18 AM ET

Gm's love youg coaches these days, they do what their told so well !

July 27, 2008  09:26 AM ET

The EGO's of men will be the downfall of our civilization Ted Thompson.

With the Packers not wanting Favre it is the start of the apocalypse.

July 27, 2008  09:33 AM ET

I think the 'Pack are very interested to see if Rodgers can play since they did draft him in the first round and Favre's retirement was very convienvent. There is now only one option for the "Pack and that is to trade his ****.Even though Rodgers will probably get injured and Favre will get to play,it would be bad juju having him around as a back up.(when Rodgers goes down you will see Brohm show why he will start in '09)Trade Favre to Miami, they lost 6 games by 3 points or less, they will have a decent run game and Henne would be better off with Favre showing him the ropes. They also have the cap space, which very few teams do and a real need for box office pop.Tampa will continue their up and down record and they have nobody for him to throw too.(who the hell would want to be around Gruden and his massive ego?About time for him to go to another contender and run it into the ground).Go to Miami if you want to start,it's a short flight home.

July 27, 2008  09:48 AM ET

Despite Brett's legacy at Green Bay, this has to be Aaron's team. Brett made a decision to retire and the Packers had to move on in PB (Post Brett) era. Sorry Brett, you made a decision and now you're #2 - at least until they trade you or release you.

July 27, 2008  09:58 AM ET

"Brett made a decision to retire " Brett was led to "decide" to retire by TT's unwelcome mat and don't let the door hit you in the butt stance. After a small amout of time to clear his head of TT's negetive cold shoulder attitude toward him, he realized that he himself would like to be the one to make the decision.

July 27, 2008  10:02 AM ET

Just wait till Brett hires someone to break Aaron Rodgers legs so the Pack have no choice but to welcome Brett back into GB.

Actually. The pack went 13-3 last year and lost to the team who would become the world champions in the NFC title game. Brett Favre did all the work there for the pack. I can't wait to see Aaron Rodgers fail for the next 1-3 years to even make it to the playoffs (even if I am a Pack fan). If The packers fall short of anything above .500 I will be pissed at the FO for their bonehead decision when they will be saying.

"Well we wanted to give Aaron rodgers a chance, Brett told us that he was retiring so we moved on and got Aaron ready for the season. Unfortunately Aaron suffered from a minor foot sprain that limited him to what we could do in practice...." and on and on they will go. They will make up excuses to back Aaron up, or actually admit that they were idiots and appologize personally to Favre.

July 27, 2008  10:12 AM ET

can't see the Pack keeping a 10 million dollar back up QB. they will trade him to get what they can, and pin that city's hopes and dreams on Rodgers shoulders. Welcome to the NFL kid, ohhh yeah by the way watch out for those blind side blitzes they can hurt just a tad.

July 27, 2008  10:43 AM ET

How is this news? I thought we knew this for months.

July 27, 2008  10:46 AM ET

Rodgers has just as much chance of winning a Superbowl as Brett does. None!

Good for Green Bay, though.

July 27, 2008  10:59 AM ET

Everything will be fine when Green Bay beats the 49ers
in 3rd Preseasonal game at S.F OR laughing stock as
the 49ers kill with revenge at beating Green Bay.
Remember its only preseason:-)

July 27, 2008  11:20 AM ET

****!! This is so great. The ego-tastical warrior wants to return only to be told "thanks, really, but no thanks". I mean, what are the packers thinking? Who else can go 18 for 28 for them with 1 TD and 2 pics. fold in January like the seats in lambeau. who else could win 1 superbowl in 17 years. I mean, really???

At the espys, did Berman do the interview from his knees??

July 27, 2008  11:23 AM ET

Could anyone see Ted Thompson while McCarthy was speaking, and if so, were Thompson's lips moving?

July 27, 2008  11:24 AM ET

Why couldnt they just said this a month ago?
