Vols beat SEC foes to recruit

In the end, David Lipscomb receiver Zach Rogers had to go with his gut feeling when choosing where to play college football. That meant one of the state's fastest prep athletes will wear orange and white and join his brother at Tennessee. He chose the Vols over Auburn, Vanderbilt and South Carolina.

He should have gone to Auburn. They need some new receivers to feature in the spread offense. UT is always loaded at receiver.

His brother is already at Tennessee. All I have to say is that Fulmer better play the brother, because he didn't roll with CJ Leak and it cost him Chris Leak. No need to have that happen again.

dawgdayafternoon - Historically, I would agree with you. But we haven't been stacked at WR for years. I would say that the last time we had a great corps of WRs was in the late 1990s with Price and Cedrick Wilson. The receiving has been fairly weak since Jason Witten left for Dallas. We'll take all the help at WR we can get.

J. Hova - CJ Leak wasn't good enough to play at QB, but he was moved to WR in order to give him a better shot to get on the field. He couldn't make the cut as a starter and came in a few times in a pinch. Honestly, we didn't miss out on much by not getting Chris Leak. Even if we would have gotten him, we wouldn't have been able to utilize his talents like Meyer. Look at the inability Fulmer and company had with Schaeffer under center.

Its nice to pull good talent, but it will only pay off if we can effectly coach the young talent to bring out their best. I sure hope we can.

Astros97, I agree with all your observations. And its never a good idea for a coach to play an older brother just to recruit a younger one, if the older brother is not his best player to put on the field. They may both turn out to be duds, no matter what their time in the 40 is. And a coach with real stones knows that.

Fullmer will probably follow his normal methods and play the best man available

Zacks brother, Austin, is a starter. And pretty darn good too.

I'm not a Vol fan but I just remember watching the game (I believe against Georgia) on CBS when Leak was pulled. I remember that Chris was there. That's the only reason why I made the observation.

You Vols fan would know better about it then I would.

Astros97: Word! I like Brent Schaeffer but man was Fulmer quick to pull him for Erik Ainge. In the long run it made sense for Tennessee but I always wonder how Schaeffer would have turned out if he was the man for the Vols and not Ainge because all that guy did was die at Ole Miss and now probably has no career post college football.
