Miami-Dade County's top two wide receiver prospects for the class of 2009 -- Archbishop Carroll's Rodney Smith and Norland's Xavier Rhodes -- each orally committed to Florida State this weekend. Rhodes (6-2, 194), who said he has offers from UM, FIU and West Virginia, is rated No. 7 in Dade and is entering his third season as a starter at Norland. Smith (6-6, 206), the No. 9 prospect in Dade and a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, said he has more than 30 offers including UM, UF and South Florida.

Maybe some of the lovely ladies from FSU were there to help 'seal the deal'

July 28, 2008  09:24 AM ET

July 28, 2008  09:32 AM ET

Nice pick up for FSU! However when I saw "Top Two WR commit to Florida State"; I must admit I was thinking top two nationally, not from Dade County. But I understand both of these guys are very good.

You haven't been following the Seminoles much this off-season, have you? A nice little QB battle brewing in Tally, with the ultimate prize, E.J. Manuel, waiting in the wings. We'll be fine at QB - finally!

The top two from Dade county might BE the two best in the nation, as well! Exaggerating a little, but there's NO county in ANY state that produces more D-1 talent than Miami-Dade.

TRUTH, c'mon man, take it easy on my Noles> :-)

Orally committed? That sounds so wrong in so many ways...

Don't know if you've ever been to Florida State, but trust me, if FSU girls were there to "seal the deal", every damn player in that county would be commiting to Florida State!

Given how I've seen you savage others on here, I suppose you're right. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words regarding Florida State.

NO! It will be discovered sometime around mid-season that BOTH programs have been playing "Weekend At Bernie's" with their coaches for some time. Since neither school will 'fess up to how long it's been going on, and nobody outside the programs can figureit out, it will go to Coach Bowden by default.

They probably picked FSU for their academics.

Like most other colleges, an EXCELLENT education is available at Florida State... IF that's what you are there for. Let's not act like PSU's recruits go THERE because they're impressed by the course selection, shall we?
