Rockies cooling on Holliday trade?

With the Rockies' hot streak, it would be difficult to imagine them trading Matt Holliday now. The same goes for reliever Brian Fuentes, though he's a free agent after the year and more replaceable (Manny Corpas seems to be back, lowering his ERA two runs in a month and a half). If Fuentes goes, the Cardinals, Rays and Marlins look like possible players.

Of course the Rockies are cooling on this. For the millionth time I have said this, the awful NL West is wide open and the Rockies are absolutely still a contender. THEY ARE NOT SELLERS FOLKS.

I think you're right ECK, especially after their run last year. I'm sure they feel that can happen again.

One more reliever off the board for the Cards....

Keep Holliday. We need Fuentes!!!!!!

July 28, 2008  09:52 AM ET

The Rockies and Sox should swap Holliday for Manny straight up.

Holliday for Manny.... Not happening. Why would we trade Holliday for essentially the same player, but twice as expensive and 7 years older? I really do think that Fuentes will be traded, probably for a decent starter to go with the rotation of Cook, Jimenez, Francis, and De La Rosa. If Holliday gets traded, though, it will be in the offseason or at the next trade deadline.

The Rox should keep him, they are only 6 gms behind...they can still make a good run at some teams in the NL....

Rockies have good hitters, they need to get good pitchers. They won't go anywhere if they have starting pitchers like Francis, De La Rosa, Redman, etc.

She'll put Harold Reynolds in a burlap bag and hoist it over the yard arm.

That reminds me, did I ever discuss my long going parlance involving Kathie Lee Gifford?

Matt Holliday most likley will get traded to one of the two biggest money spenders in pro sports. The Yankees or the Red Sox because they are willing to trade some of their minor leauge talent to get a leathal weapon in Matt Holliday, plus they have the $ to sign him long term, but he WON"T get AROD money, but possibly he could get a Manny Ramirez kind of contract ( 8 years, $160 million with 2 contract OPTs) Ithink their is NO WAY that the Red Sox and the Rockies are gonna swap Holliday for Ramirez. I think the deal will have to happen this off-season.

It's a good thing that the NL West is weak or Holiday would be gone.

July 28, 2008  07:26 PM ET

Is there any chance in the offseason a trade of Holliday for Halliday - EXCELLENT PRESS !!!

July 30, 2008  06:43 PM ET

Holliday can stay. We need Fuentes!!!!

July 31, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Agreed. I don't want Holliday that badly.....just Fuentes!
