New names in Islanders search

Mike Sullivan and Scott Gordon aren't exactly marquee names in the NHL, but the next two candidates scheduled to interview for the Islanders' head-coaching vacancy this week might be the best fit for general manager Garth Snow's long-term plan to build with youthful prospects and the draft. Candidates on Snow's list who have not yet interviewed include former Colorado coach Joel Quenneville and Islanders assistant Gerard Gallant. Snow spoke with former Toronto coach Paul Maurice and former Atlanta coach Bob Hartley last week. According to a team source, the interview process is expected to conclude within the next two weeks at the current pace. John Tortorella's interview was said to have "gone as well as the interviews with Hartley and Maurice." Those three are the big-name candidates along with Quenneville.

I like Garth Snow...keep him around for years. The Leafs like him too.

Thank you Garth on behalf of Leaf Nation for giving up your Top Draft pick Luke Schenn to the Toronto...
Now please, take back McCabe and give us another sir.

Translation? Snow Job will be less intimidated by and be able to more easily manipulate an unknown than someone like John Tortorella!

There's no relief in sight for the few remaining Islanders faithful!

Let me get this striaght... Garth Snow wants to rebuild the team with youngsters and the draft-system, yet he wants the team to qualify for playoffs? I see a couple of problems with this.

1. How are you supposed to build a team with mediocre draft positions? If you want to rebuild the team from scratch you do a Penguins and suck for 4-5 years straight.

2. To get to the playoffs you need experience, that's it. Whether it's a coach or a 35-year old has-been it doesn't really matter. Islanders have none of these.

Things are so messed up there right now.

Oh, and I'd like to see Elmo as the new head coach.
