Mets struggling to find corner outfielder

Get used to seeing Fernando Tatis in the Mets outfield. As of yesterday, the Mets were growing in the belief that they will not obtain a corner outfielder before Thursday's trade deadline. They like Pittsburgh's Jason Bay and Seattle's Raul Ibanez, but vow if the prospect price does not lower on either, they will stick with their current inventory. Meanwhile, rival clubs describe the Mets as making too many prospects untouchable, which also severely diminishes the chances for a trade. The Mets have removed Double-A outfielder Fernando Martinez and left-hander Jon Niese from discussions, and also are said to have made their Binghamton teammates, Robert Parnell, Eddie Kunz and Daniel Murphy, nearly untouchable.

Theres nothing wrong w/ Tatis and Chavez playing left and right. Tatis has a hot bat, and you can't take that away.

And now that the Metropolitans have no farm system left, do you blame them on trying to keep the or 5 guys they have left?

Good. The Mets should keep they're brightest prospects. (Although, getting Ibanez and then letting him go via free agency will provide two draft picks).

Simply because not every name in the current lineup is a marquis name, doesn't mean they can't win. The familiarity of the name (and paycheck) means nothing if they're producing. Let them play and see what happens.

The Mets need another corner outfielder, and as long as they dont have to give up Martinez or Niese, they should do it. I dont mind having Tatis and Chavez sharing one outfield spot, but having Tatis in left and Chavez in right will not last for the remainder of the season. Unless the Mets are 100% sure that Ryan Church will be able to play regularly for the rest of the season (which they can't be) they need to trade for either Ibanez or Randy Winn.

Let's assume Ryan Church comes back from his post concussion woes. Church, Fernando Tatis, Carlos Beltran and Endy Chavez as a spot starter and defensive replacement make for a very nice outfield. That's why the Mets didn't play too hard in the 'let's beat the trade deadline' sweepstakes. There was no available corner outfielder that was playing better than Tatis at that time.
