Billups expects to remain a Piston

Chauncey Billups has listened from afar, wondering how it got to this, how he went from Mr. Big Shot to Mr. Big Rumor. Ultimately, he understands the trade talk because he understands the business. None of the noise and upheaval has changed Billups' stance. He still desperately wants to be a Piston. And he still expects to be a Piston -- along with many of his teammates -- when the season starts. "Yep, I do, without a doubt," Billups said.

That's wonderful Chauncey. How many more eastern conference championships do you and the guys plan on losing?

W/ Rodney Stuckey on the rise, Billups becomes expendable. Very tradeable player right now and the Pistons has the edge on this. Billups is showing his age and durability. He seems to get injured more and more each year.

This team takes a SIGNIFICANT step backwards without him.
- anyone who doesn't realize this is just plain silly-
he DEFENDS, drives, can shoot 3's .....he's a top 5 point guard in the league-
you CAN'T replace that

If he didn't get hurt in the playoffs last year-
they might have beaten boston
(not saying they WOULD HAVE- but might have)

Garbage reporting. What else is he supposed to say in this situation? It's sad that a player actually behaving like a professional/adult is 'news'.

July 29, 2008  09:25 AM ET

I like him.

"W/ Rodney Stuckey on the rise, Billups becomes expendable. "

I TOTALLY disagree with that statement

I know it's only been 1 year-
but check out stucky's shooting %
40% from floor -not good
and .188 from 3..........
that is NOT what you want from your point guard

July 29, 2008  09:27 AM ET

billups is super important as he can guard both positions in the backcourt and is very attractive in terms of his contract

i have heard reports he may be traded to the 76ers for andre miller (exp but would probably sign an extension) if philly include a first round draft pick

billups would be the leader on that very talented 76ers team

as good as billups is the pistons have become stale and miller provides a real good spark which would help out the pistons and a 1st round pick gives them a quicker chance to rebuild or use as piece to make another trade and get better

this is close to a win-win what do people think?

July 29, 2008  09:50 AM ET

billups is still the man and the pistons will continue to be a good team. joe d is looking to blow the team up just to blow it up but he does have some tradeable assets and is looking to see what he can get. i dont know why it seems like its so hard for everyone to understand.

the same people going on and on about why isnt he making a deal are the same people that would kill him for making a bad deal. this isnt a fire sale. hes not in a rush to blow up a team that will still win over 55 games and finish with home court advantage in the playoffs. hes not giving these guys away but if a solid deal came along to make the team better he will make it. he can afford to be patient, he still has a winning ball club that gets along.

July 29, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Edit- joe d ISN'T looking to the blow the team up just to blow it up.

July 29, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Other than Rasheed, I don't see why the Pistons would trade anyone. Prince, Hamilton, and Billups man their roles perfectly and they play team defense better than any of the pieces the Pistons are researching.

Now I am not saying that it's all Rasheed's fault, but he is a distraction. They need some new blood on that team.

Former No. 1 pick Kwame Brown, Pistons agree on deal worth up to $8 million over 2 seasons
By LARRY LAGE, Associated Press

Brown, the No. 1 pick overall in 2001, will make $4 million next season. If Brown exercises an option for the 2009-10 season, he will play in Detroit for another $4 million. If Brown doesn't take the option, he become a free agent again next summer and the Pistons won't owe him anything.

He has averaged just 7.5 points and 5.7 rebounds over his career that started with the Washington Wizards and continued with the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies.

The 6-foot-11, 270-pound center had the best season of his NBA career with the Wizards four years ago, when he averaged 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Brown is coming off perhaps his biggest disappointment, scoring just 4.8 points a game ??? his lowest average since his rookie year ??? with the Lakers and Grizzlies. Brown was traded to Memphis in February as part of the Pau Gasol deal.

The Pistons won't need Brown to live up to the billing of being the top pick in the draft, but they will count on him to add depth at center and power forward.

Se7en there is your new blood dude just make sure it dosent result in you losing any

July 29, 2008  10:09 AM ET

If I were them, I'd try to trade him. Give some PT for Stuckey. His time is over in Detroit.

July 29, 2008  10:12 AM ET

Heard a rumor he's considering leaving for Europe.

July 29, 2008  10:16 AM ET

I loved the Pistons years ago. They were so entertaining to watch but their fire's gone now. They don't seem interested in the game anymore.

joeD is the new MJ.
MJ made a mistake on brown
JOE is making a mistake on brown PLUS Darko

July 29, 2008  10:22 AM ET

How did he make a mistake? Hes got wealth of forwards, if the risk of taking brown doesnt pay off he can just sit. thats what 10th or 12th men are for.

Bobcats, Okafor agree to $72 million deal
RICK BONNELL

Emeka Okafor
Poll | Good deal for the Bobcats?
Blog | Inside the NBA
The Charlotte Bobcats are keeping their center, at a considerable cost.

Early this morning, Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins confirmed to the Observer that the team has agreed to a six-year, $72 million deal with Emeka Okafor. Higgins expects the contract to be signed in the next few days.

Higgins said he felt it was crucial for the Bobcats to retain Okafor, their best defensive player at the rim.

???You need that big guy to defend the Tim Duncans, the (Shaquille) O???Neals, the (Kevin) Garnetts,?????? Higgins said. ???The big guys control the game in the post, and that???s our guy when it comes to doing that.

???The way this team is set up with (new coach) Larry (Brown), this was important. Larry is very defensive-oriented.??????

The Bobcats significantly raised their offer ??? both in dollars and contract length ??? to make this happen. A source familiar with the situation said last week the Bobcats were offering closer to $10 million this summer than the $12 million average that ultimately got the job done.

That lower offer ticked off the Okafor camp and caused some hurt feelings. Higgins told the Observer Friday that he wasn???t interested in any sign-and-trade of Okafor, but acknowledged it was also not in the team???s best interest for Okafor to sign a one-year, $7 million qualifying offer.

As other big men signed (Milwaukee???s Andrew Bogut and Golden State???s Andris Biedrins) it became apparent that a long-team deal, in the $12 million-average range, was a fair number.

???It was a long time coming ??? actually about a year of negotiations,?????? Higgins said. ???Any time you have a player like Emeka ??? a rebounder (10.8 per game), a defender at the rim, it???s imperative for a team to keep a guy like that.??????

when he signed billups, chauncy was a a has been who never was. tradeed for rasheed when sheed was a cancer that no one wanted (hes back to that status but did win a ring in the process so that move was a win,)

joe signed mcdyss when everyone thought he was more than finished. joe is a risk taker and with a deep and talented squad he can afford to take some risks.
