Angels gaining interest in Teixeira

The Angels appear to be warming to the idea of a rental player, a thawing of their hard-line approach toward short-term fixes that has led them to explore a possible trade for slugger Mark Teixeira . . . again. Though a deal for the Atlanta switch-hitter would probably cost them promising first baseman Casey Kotchman, the Angels believe Teixeira and Vladimir Guerrero would give them a three-four punch comparable to Boston's David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez.

If the Braves are moving Teixeira, they should get Vlad in return. Why did we trade for Tex if we're going to just trade him away now? Our problem isn't him - it's PITCHING.

I still say Adam Dunn as DH is the best move for the Angels. Vlad would see the best pitches of his career with Dunn batting behind him.

I'd love for the Angels to get Teixeira, I just don't want them to trade Kotchman.

Send Gary Matthews Jr. (pay part of his salary) and Robin Quinlan or Brandon Wood.

Then you would have an outfield of Teixeria (LF) Hunter (CF) and Vlad (RF) going into the play-offs with Anderson as the DH!

WOOT!

11amlin - you can't just move Tex immediately from 1B to LF.

July 29, 2008  07:54 AM ET

The Angels cannot give up Kotchman for Tex.

Why would they play Tex in the OF? Don't say "woot" its mundane and nonsensical garbage.

Texiera is the best fielding everyday 1B in the majors right now. I am not sure what Kotchman does in the field, but Tex is better. The Angels lineup would immediately be better with Tex in that lineup.

Braves are now saying they are trying to get a trade.. will be interesting to see where he goes and what they get for him....

Hey Accountant, You're a clown!

"Texiera is the best fielding everyday 1B in the majors right now. I am not sure what Kotchman does in the field, but Tex is better"

I think you need to look at your numbers again!

WOOT!

Anyone decent the Angels pick up makes them a scary team.

July 29, 2008  09:32 AM ET

Texiera is Arod lite...when the going gets tough, these guys curl into the fetal position and hit .180 w/ no power.

Look at the stats before you make your comments on way Mark would play LF for the Angels...

Good trade that will put them over the top in AL....PULL THE TRIGGER!

Another good option for the Angel's..either way they go...you have to make them the AL favorite to go to the WS.

July 29, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Rent Tex now because next March, he will be out there in Pinstripes

July 29, 2008  10:35 AM ET

If the Angels get Tex why would they not try to sign him long term? I would like to see Tex make it to the FA market so the Yanks could get a shot at him, but someone should preempt this, If you are giving prospects on the rental why not try to get him long term.

July 29, 2008  10:48 AM ET

If the Angels get Tex, I highly doubt Atlanta is gonna take anything less than a package starting with Kotchman.

July 29, 2008  11:42 AM ET

Mention a guy's name in a trade, his bat gets hot. I say keep the team the way it is unless we can get ManRam.

From a Braves perspective, picking up Kotchman would work..... we'd just need a veteran starter and a leftfielder next year.....and we'd have lots of cash to do it..... Ben Sheets sounds very good to me....
