08:00 AM ET 06.09 | Joakim Noah grew up a Knicks fan in New York, which is why these words rolled off his tongue fairly easily on Friday. "I hated Michael Jordan," Noah said. Thanks to the Eddy Curry trade, the Bulls own the ninth overall pick in the June 28 draft courtesy of the Knicks, a fact not wasted on the wit of Noah.

The whole country was on Jordan's jockstrap but true New Yorkers hated his guts. Count me as one of the haters. Thanks, Joakim. I have always wanted a famous New Yorker to say that.

mj was the man...its understandable that you guys didnt like him though...he **** on you alot but i appreciate these kind of statements they make the rivalry games much more interesting

June 9, 2007  09:18 AM ET

So Big Bird is a Knicks fan, huh? And MJ owned the Knicks as a player. Who really gives a s#@t what this goof thinks?

June 9, 2007  09:26 AM ET

Yet another reason to hate this d0uche Noah. He talks and acts like an idiot.

June 9, 2007  09:49 AM ET

Hey, he is just being honest. What is the problem? he was probably 10-12 years old at the time. When I was that age I was a big Vikings fan and absolutely hated Roger Staubach (even though, he has to be one of the classiest gentlemen out there for ex-players). I would rather have comments like Noah's then the mindless vanilla repetition of cliches that you get from many athletes.

June 9, 2007  10:15 AM ET

New Yorkers weren't the only ones that hated Jordan. Try Detroit, whose era he ended. The Cavs, whose dreams he continuously crushed. Those are the true haters of Jordan, and both cities are much bigger rivalries w/ Chicago then NY is. Anyhow, I think Noah is a cremepuff, he will be an Anderson Varejao in the NBA(...a flop).

June 9, 2007  10:48 AM ET

Not trying to offend anybody, BUT IS THAT NOT THE GAYEST PICTURE THEY COULD HAVE FOUND OF NOAH?? LOL

June 9, 2007  11:01 AM ET

Of course you Knick fans hated Jordan. He made your franchise look straight up ridiculous in the 90's! As for Mr Noah, hopefully some team takes him well before the 9th pick because he is one of the most OVERRATED prospects to come out of college in years! We don't want him in Chi-town!

June 9, 2007  11:03 AM ET

This is sheer ignorance, its ok if as a FAN he hated Jordan and the Bulls, but what young big man would not love to play with the backcourt of the Bulls. He would be on a contending team right from the start, guess he would rather play for the Bucks.....yes Joakim once again u are making yourself the center of attention with your mouth....maybe u should try to be like your team mates who will all be better pros than u and let your game speak

June 9, 2007  11:08 AM ET

Love him or hate him, anyone else thing that this guy will be pretty entertaining in post game press conferences?

June 9, 2007  11:09 AM ET

I don't see what's even wrong with it. Lakers fans say they hated Bird and Celts fans say they hated Magic. Respect is another issue altogether. If a pro-level player said he didn't respect Bird or Magic or Jordan's brilliance, then we could dismiss that player as a loudmouth and an attention seeker.

Saying you hated they guy who crushed your childhood favorite team? That's just an honest gut reaction. As a lifelong Lakers fan, I have an irrational dislike of Boston; the team, it's stupid colors and mascot, their grating announcers, their grubby little city, its pasty denizens, and generally everything about it. That doesn't change the fact that Boston is a charming and important city, that the Celtics have a grand tradition, and that plenty of Bostonians are wonderful people.

Nice job of **** off a potential future fanbase, Noah. Either you're very confident in whatever your agent is telling you about not being drafted by the Bulls, or you want to use hometown boos as motivation, to "shock the world." It could be that he didn't think before he spoke, but thats not as fun to suggest.

Seriously, why would you **** off a potential employer by taking shots at a guy who's statue is outside their stadium? Just couldn't wait another three weeks, could ya?

You're a pro now Joakim. Everything you say - like it or not - is subject to scrutiny. People will have no qualms about verbally filleting you. That goes with the territory, when you become a professional, and take with it the matching notoriety and fame. Think Joakim, please. People hate you enough as is.

Come to think of it I hated BABY JESSICA TOO. And the chimpanze they sent to the moon. What a ****!

June 9, 2007  11:45 AM ET

Absolutely LOVE his honesty. He didn't say he'd never play for the Bulls. He didn't say he'd never play for Jordon. I'm a 49er fan. I hated Troy Aikman and Emmit Smith. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be thrilled to get an autograph. And I still root for HOF Racing (Aikman's race team).

June 9, 2007  11:47 AM ET

Wait a minute, Noah is a dude?!?

June 9, 2007  11:51 AM ET

The part of this we didnt see was the question "Growing up a in New York, you were a Knicks fan. Does that mean you loved or hated MIchael Jordan? THEY ASK YOU A QUESTION, YOU ANSWER IT. GOOD JOB NOAH FOR NOT BEING A**** NBA ROBOT. If your ignorant you beleive what NOAH said actually has impact on whether the bulls draft him. Last I checked, Jordan doesnt play anymore, meaning they wont be playing together. Would you have prefered the NBA ANSWER "Well Michael Jordan is the greatest" blah blah blah. Jordan's statue is out front, but it doesnt make decisions for the bulls, nor do the fans. Noah plays like the man that tyrus thomas isnt. They will draft him if they want him. The bulls were good this year but they will go nowhere if their organization and fans stop living the the jordan era. ITS OVER, FACE IT.

June 9, 2007  12:01 PM ET

I have a feeling this Noah guy is gonna suck

June 9, 2007  12:11 PM ET

Why wouldn't he hate Jordan. I am a Laker fan, and hated Jordan also. But I did respect him as the second best player ever, behind MAGIC!

June 9, 2007  12:15 PM ET

Adding to what PSU 1253 said...That is entirely possible.
Oh, and I didn't like Jordan for several years. Not because I was a Knicks or Cavs or Pistons fan, but because I just got sick of hearing about him ALL the time, like there were no other players or teams in the league.
MJ was amazing, and I know there were no other players in HIS league. I just grew tired of ESPN canonizing him on a daily basis.
