Rays ask Reds about Dunn

The Rays have contacted Cincinnati about Adam Dunn, who still needs a new home. The Rays were hoping for a right-handed hitter, but it appears likely now that their favorite target Jason Bay will wind up in Boston, assuming the three-team blockbuster to send Manny Ramirez to Florida is completed. However, they could still use offense, and could wind up with Dunn. The Diamondbacks and another NL team were said to have made plays for Dunn, with the D'backs offering Chad Tracy. The Reds appear to have been unmoved by the other two plays and will now give Tampa a shot at the man who's hit as many home runs as anyone over the past five years.

Dunn is done in Cinny. If they can move him now, more power to them, otherwise he will be a free agent and the Reds can use the draft picks he will get them.

still hoping the reds resign dunn.

SEND ADAM TO THE ANGELS!!!!!! I have a feeling the Kotchman Texeira trade is going to be a bust.

dunn is really underrated... hes hit more home runs in the last 5 years than any other player, the only thing that seperates him from an all star is that he cant hit for average and hasnt proven himself in the postseason

Dunn makes perfect sense for the Rays..... and I agree that Dunn is underrated. Yes, his K total is high and his defense is sub-par, but he hits for power and a high OBP, and his defense wouldn't be an issue if he were a permanent DH.

Will Dunn fit under the roof at Tropicana Field/Farmers' Market?

Really great to see that T & R is on top of the Griffey trade.

Excellent work, fellas!

July 31, 2008  11:10 AM ET

Please say no. I'm not much of a fan of Dunn and as a Rays fan I don't know if this is the move to make giving up some of our prospects.

I know his HR & RBI #'s always look good in the end......
but there is a reason Cincy has SUCKED for so long

Both Him & Griffey are not wining players-

I would NOT touch him if I were the rays

bummer. wanted JR to stay. Hope he rejects the trade.

Sorry, reports are out that Junior has approved the trade. Clearly, he wants a shot at a ring.

He has already accepted the trade, and thank goodness. Looks like Dunn might be staying for awhile, but who knows....?

to jgb the only reason the reds are where they are is because of adam dunn. he leads the mlb in homeruns and has over 70 rbi's. get a clue dumbass

You mean seven games under .500? Dunn is certainly a more valuable player right now than Griffey, and you are correct that the team would suffer from losing him. But Adam Dunn was born to be a DH, and certainly this will be his role somewhere down the road.

Thank you brad........

Rdes fan-
what is your overall record with Dunn & Griff ?

You are a typical 'fan' who can't see past your favorite teams warts.
Cincy is a JOKE of a franchise
Dunn is Dave Kingman.
and Griffey (currently- not circa 1990's ) is an OLD dave Kingman.

once these 2 anchors are removed- watch as your team IMPROVES

Dunn is Dave Kingman.
jgb | 07/31/08, 01:34 PM

For all his flaws, Dunn is actually a far better OBP guy than Kingman ever was. He is hardly a franchise cornerstone, but I think he would be a benefit to almost any MLB lineup. The only real argument is how much he is worth, either trade-wise or payroll-wise, or both....
