Where will Bouwmeester land?

So the only questions now are when Jay Bouwmeester leaves Florida, and for what? Conventional wisdom suggests that Jacques Martin keep his powder dry until the trade deadline, but that ain't gonna happen. Neither will he hold out until Jan. 1, 2009, the first point at which he can approach Bouwmeester about an extension. The intentions of Bouwmeester are clear, so the time to pounce is early, perhaps during training camp. The Anaheim Ducks, already over the cap for this season, might seem like an unlikely candidate, but they'd have to be the leader in the clubhouse. They have just one blueliner, Chris Pronger, under contract past this season and his deal extends only through 2009-10. The Dallas Stars, who could lose both Sergei Zubov and Philippe Boucher after this season, also should be in the running. The Senators and Devils also have the needs and the assets to get involved in the bidding.

Jay won't have any problem whatsoever to find a place to land. Just about every team in the league would pay for his services.

He's a pretty good d-man so his value at the trade deadline is gonna be high. Hope the Panthers can get a decent return for him at the deadline. How soon before Buttman moves them to KC?

Fla re ups with the guy just to trade him?

I see him as a Devil. They need an impact defenseman in the worst way.

wow...NJD actually intend to do something re: player personnel...that is a novel concept.

go get him lou

Dean Lombardi should try to get him in L.A.....Wait a minute that would actually be a "good move" and that goes against everything the Los Angeles Kings stand for.

July 31, 2008  04:51 PM ET

Sorry Art they don't need to over pay to get a young D-man. LA has plenty of good defensive prospects and adding Bo to that team wouldn't help much this year. NJD won't do anything Lou would rather stand pat than pay Bo's price in prospects and millions. The Senators are to close to the cap, ditto the stars and ducks. He won't be moving til the deadline and to a team that already has some cap space available. Florida had to re-up him because if they didn't want to go to arbitration and possibly see him get more. Also, he is leaving after this season so he has to be traded in-order to get something in return.
