06:10 AM ET 07.31 | Though NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is waiting at least one more day to reinstate Brett Favre, neither that extra time nor a $20 million offer from the team to stay retired will resolve the Green Bay Packers' impasse with their record-setting quarterback or prevent him from reporting to training camp. Packers President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Murphy met with Favre and Favre's agent, Bus Cook, on Wednesday at Cook's office in Hattiesburg, Miss., but Murphy was unable to convince Favre not to report to training camp. Murphy didn't have much football related to entice Favre to stay home, though a source close to Favre said the team raised the possibility of paying Favre a substantial salary -- about $20 million over 10 years -- to stay retired. "We're going to do whatever Brett wants to do," Cook told the Hattiesburg American after the meeting. "And right now, his intention is to go back to Green Bay and play football."

20 Mill to do nothing!!!!!, I might have to take that deal.

July 31, 2008  06:20 AM ET

Complete Garbage. The Packers are a **** Organization for doing this to him. I understand that they want to move on. But it is Brett's Decision if he wants to play. Release the man. He is better than Aaron Rodgers. I think Rodgers should get his chance but, Brett needs his too.

July 31, 2008  06:21 AM ET

That is crazy though. I wouldn't take it. It's basically telling the rest of the NFL that the Packers Org. is Chicken****!

If I were Goodell.....I would put the Hammer down on this and demand his release from the team immediately.

July 31, 2008  06:24 AM ET

I will take $20 mil to sit in Mississippi and coach High School football...no problem.

July 31, 2008  06:31 AM ET

so the packers are offering brett 20 million to be a consultant?

July 31, 2008  06:47 AM ET

The money will come out of Aaron Rodgers salary, Favre will break the deal in 5 years, go to an AFC team, and beat the Packers in their first superbowl appearance since 97.

This is NUTZ. Why give a player money to stay retired?? Why not let him come to camp, have him play with the second team and let him know he's not the team's future anymore?

Better yet, just leave him alone and he'll go away once he realizes he won't get what he wants and then he'll fade away. Let him come to camp and deal with it like an adult. The Packers would then keep their 20 million.

July 31, 2008  06:54 AM ET

It's not the monet, it's the principle...........................and any interest that may have accrued.

July 31, 2008  06:55 AM ET

Oh! Now I understand why I can't afford to go to a NFL game anymore.

July 31, 2008  07:13 AM ET

First Elam now Lynch....YOU BETTER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING TANAHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 31, 2008  07:15 AM ET

July 31, 2008  07:18 AM ET

Yea, this makes sense. He can make $12 million next year if he comesback, and could probably play another year and get atleast $8 million. If I were a Packer fan, I would start to question the front office.

July 31, 2008  07:29 AM ET

This changes things !!! Packers offer 20 Mil to Favre ? What are they afraid of ????? Hmm this is better that the Young and the Restless for sure !!! Brett, if you can hear me out there, don't let the little SOB's push you around !!!! Stick to your guns buddy, PLAY BALL !!!!!!!

July 31, 2008  07:31 AM ET

broncos, lol bretty. i like that and will have to borrow it.

July 31, 2008  07:38 AM ET

Thank you, Packers! How about you throw a pair of handcuffs on him after he gets the $20 mil?

July 31, 2008  07:42 AM ET

Just think, if Brett forces the Packs hand, and comes back to them as their second QB, how many interceptions does Aaron have to throw before the entire crowd of Packer fans start chanting for Favre? I'd say every single one...That's gonna break the Pack's season for sure....so they might as well trade him to whoever, wherever he wants to go. This will be fun watching throughout the season. Go Pack! Go Vikes!
