Leftwich to work out for Titans

When a former NFL starting quarterback pays a free agency visit, it's an attention grabber. But news that former Jaguars and Falcons quarterback Byron Leftwich will work out for the Titans today is a non-story as there are no plans to sign him, Coach Jeff Fisher said. General Manager Mike Reinfeldt regularly brings in players for physicals and workouts so the Titans will have updated information on them if a need arises. Vince Young certainly isn't going anywhere, the Titans are happy with backup Kerry Collins and Fisher is eager to see how Ingle Martin will perform in preseason games.

"so the Titans will have updated information on them if a need arises."

Here's some updated infor for ya. Leftwich blows!

hard to believe leftwich can't find any type of work as a qb or backup in the nfl

That Ingle Martin kid can also kick the crap out of the ball, I saw him play at Furman.

a titans thread????

July 31, 2008  08:34 AM ET

Vince, Bryon is coming for your spot..lol..I had to throw that out there...

July 31, 2008  09:20 AM ET

can you can Canadian League Leftwich.

July 31, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Why are you so sure the TITANS are happy with VY????????????

July 31, 2008  09:28 AM ET

Don't bother with Leftwich. He is slower than slow.

July 31, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Leftwich throws TD's, VY does not....

July 31, 2008  09:38 AM ET

As a backup: why not?

July 31, 2008  09:44 AM ET

Betchboy,
you think if he shed some pounds he could get some speed back? You are correct he is slow

July 31, 2008  10:10 AM ET

Leftwich sucks. I beseech the Titans organization not to waste anymore time on him. Collins is head and shoulders above Leftwich as a backup.

July 31, 2008  10:31 AM ET

What do you mean? Collins sucks for the most part. He had one good year, but it is not like he is a consistent pro bowl quaterback . . . . .Leftwich is a much better thrower than VY or Collins. Now he is as mobile as a tree, but as a back-up you could do a lot worse.

can you can Canadian League Leftwich.

The CFL used very run oriented, mobile QBs. Byron does not fit that mold.

July 31, 2008  11:09 AM ET

Why isn't Miami or Chicago offering him work-out? Neither has any better options than Leftwich

July 31, 2008  11:23 AM ET

Thats all it was, a workout, Titans are happy w/ their current backup, Kerry Collins....they won't sign him.

July 31, 2008  11:25 AM ET

Leftwich gets hurt too much, he's a bad seed. Plus he don't know the playbook and if Titans happen to need a back-up scrambler they already have Ingle. Collins will continue to be a solid Back-up because of his experience, so just face it V.Y is the starter PERIOD!

July 31, 2008  11:32 AM ET

I find it hard to believe he's not a starter in the NFL he is a very good QB except for his tender body. If the NFL expanded and merged with CFL merged we'd have plenty of teams to watch and games to go too and guys like this would have a job.

Curious choice of back-up...an imobile QB behind a mobile one. They would have to change their offense totally with Leftwich in there
