Garcia returning to Gamecocks
Stephen Garcia's return from exile will come two weeks sooner than anticipated. South Carolina's suspended quarterback will be on the field Friday for the Gamecocks' first preseason practice after university officials on Wednesday approved Garcia's request for early reinstatement, according to sources close to the situation. Garcia was suspended in March following his third arrest or citation in a 15-month span. The suspension was to have lasted until Aug. 15 -- the day students return to campus -- and include a number of requirements ranging from drug and alcohol tests to personal counseling. Garcia, who lived at his family's Tampa-area home while he was prohibited from taking summer school classes at USC or participating in team activities, is not expected to attend today's team meeting. But the highly-rated redshirt freshman, who has yet to take a snap for the Gamecocks, should be in his No. 5 jersey for Friday's 7:30 p.m. practice.

So how come Spurrier and USC aren't being raked over the coals like JoePa and PSU yesterday? At least PSU dismisses the kids that break the rules....this kid did it 3 times...and will be the starting QB when the season opens...how fair is that to PSU and JoePa?

Could it be because USC is not considered a "national" football powerhouse which means no one besides you really cares????

Have to go with AFScott on this one. Is PSU considered a "national" football powerhouse? Definitely in the past, but how many times (if any) have they won the Big Ten Conference championship? How many BCS Bowl games have they appeared in? All this aside, PSU and South Carolina both compete in D - 1A and need to make these jocks realize the scrutiny they are under and that committing stupid acts which will reflect on their school is NOT AN OPTION!! Also, this should apply to all Divisions of college sports, not just D - 1A!!

LMAO! That was good. I never mind someone making a joke at my expense...as long as it's funny!
No rocks to throw at Stevie today, though. The piece on PSU and JoePa illustrates what I would have pointed out - it happens EVERYWHERE!

Nam Vet2, there was a hint of facetiousness in my comment, sorry if I didn't make it more evident. Yes I know PSU isn't a "power" any more, but at least they once were unlike USC! They can become a power again if Joe Pa stays home and rocks the grandkids like a good grandfather should!
Seriously though, Spurrier is doing his best to bring prominence and respect to USC. Remember that this year will be the first that 95% or more of the team will be his recruits and not leftovers from the Holtz era! I have confidence that USC will surprise some folks this year, present company included! The discipline issues should become minimal to none and even Garcia will wake up to become the starter before years end!

Sorry, son, as a 20 year old you could be starting your third tour kicking down doors in Kabul or Fallujah, but you can't drink a beer in public in Columbia SC.

If he keeps screwing up maybe he will be in KABUL or FALLUJAH. This kid will SCREW up again, has not played a down and been in trouble 3 times. How many times does he get. If he was not a FOOTBALL PLAYER he woul be gone by now. It makes no sense why these younger players are not told not to go to 5-points, because you know they will get DRUNK and get caught. BUT the FOOTBALL PLAYERS get off. Sounds sorta funny, don't you think.
