Vermette linked to five teams

If the Senators don't like the decison on Antoine Vermette's arbitration, they can exercise their right to "walk away," but that would allow Vermette, 26, to become an unrestricted free agent. General manager Bryan Murray would be loath to lose such a young, promising player for nothing. Vermette's name has also been mentioned in a number of trade rumours, including swaps with Toronto (for Pavel Kubina), Vancouver (Ryan Kesler or Sami Salo), Chicago, Columbus and Florida. Most of them make no sense at all, because they don't consider the crucial element: Murray's need to squeeze under the salary cap

Notice I'm not twitching, babbling, swearing or jumping out of my skin today! Let's keep it that way! :-)

July 31, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Lets look at Vermette. He is less than a .5 point-a-game guy in his career. In 38 playoff games he has 4g 4a. He made $1 mil last year and shouldn't get much of a raise. He had his "career year" last season with 50 something points but only scoring 3 more goals than he did 3 years ago. Could he produce more? I mean if you can't produce on the Sens, will you ever?

July 31, 2008  09:55 AM ET

but Sundin is only linked to two?
C'Mon Mats, step it up a bit!

If Vancouver is desperate enough to consider either of those 2 possible trades, Mike Gillis should pack up right now and start his new career as a WalMart greeter.

July 31, 2008  10:56 AM ET

The swap with Toronto would be nice. I could handle that. I just don't know what his salary will be. Toronto can't seem to afford anyone over the league minimum.

July 31, 2008  10:58 AM ET

P.S to seabird, tomorrow is Sundin's D-day. You'll get your fix tomorrow for sure, and then for at least another week as T&R will have plenty of threads on whatever the decision will be.

July 31, 2008  11:26 AM ET

The over-under on Sundin articles tomorrow is 2.5

Place your bets.

I posted this on a now obsolete thread but as I saw that the Pack were offering Favre 20 mil to stay retired, I thought all of us FNers could pool our beer money - the figure I came up with was $349.00 I think - and offer it to Mats as an incenitve to sign by the end of the week. If he wouldn't take it perhaps we could offer it to the Mods as a small bribe..... It would be but a small sacrifice for us I believe.....

BTW, I was very, very happy this morning as it's the first time I've ever gotten to be lead poster. And now I'll try and go find my life.

July 31, 2008  12:01 PM ET

Sens will never deal to a rival like Toronto.

July 31, 2008  12:06 PM ET

FROM SAME OBSOLETE THREAD:

I'll put in my two dollars! That's all I've got, the rest I spent on Scientology classes to learn how to combat them.............If you really want to know, Mats is at home with every jersey of the NHL, trying to see what color scheme will go with his shiny dome. I'm guessing Calgary.

Thought this was worth everybody seeing ( see I secretly want to be a MOD). OK, 2 bucks down, 347 to go.

Spiny,

9 is a very legitamate and conservative prediction. .

I can't see too many people taking the under. I guess the over/under should have been set at 5.5 at least.

I wouldn't give up Kubina for Vermette, regardless of salary differential.

Leafs should trade Kubina before the cutoff window closes, but not for Vermette, way too soft and not great producer either.

July 31, 2008  01:56 PM ET

What, a day without a Sundin story and you guys are still talking about him? !!!!!
Oh my God, have you all been hypnotised by T&R?

I'm leaving now before they get to me too ..................

July 31, 2008  02:15 PM ET

What, I was hijacked into talking about Mats on this thread! (does anyone else think applesauce when they hear his name?) But since we're on the topic, did you hear Sundin is in therapy because he can't understand how he's Swedish and not on the Red WIngs? That's why he has come to no resolution. "Hossa!!??? He's not Swedish!"

As for this: "Most make no sense at all." Most? How about all? Is this only a story because they've gotten rid of all of their offensive talent and he's about all that's left? Why is he a hot commodity? I don't get it.

And I've lost my tinfoil hat. Damn you NSL!!!
