Where will Sox play Griffey?

If Ken Griffey Jr. is the answer for the White Sox, then I'm not sure what the question is. If it means that the Sox have found a way to unload Paul Konerko's big contract and miniscule contributions, then great. If the Griffey deal -- if Griffey waives his no-trade rights -- means that the Sox will move Nick Swisher back to Oakland for closer Huston Street or All-Star pitcher Justin Duchscherer, then the Sox have hit gin. Or bingo. Or Yahtzee. But if it means Junior is just clogging up things and no arms are coming, then the Sox have been hitting gin-and-tonics.

A poor mans version of Jim Edmonds at best.

unless this is a no brainer question..... I would say he is going o be the DH...

Thome's already there. It's sayonara to Konerko or Swisher. Williams isn't clever enough for a Konerko deal, so bye-bye, Stevie.

umm, ken griffey is not a poor man's version of jim edmonds. that's ridiculous. dustygrady must be too young to remember griffey in his prime.

July 31, 2008  05:53 PM ET

His prime yes, But he is WELL past his prime. Jim Edmonds still has something left in the tank. Take his performance today for example.

They're gunna pay'em 16 million next year to DH at less than 30 Hr a year this guy has seen his good days with Seattle he is no good beyond that.. He's overrated now I'm glad to see him go..

"Sox have found a way to unload Paul Konerko's big contract and miniscule contributions,"

Wow, they make it sound soooo tempting.

"means that the Sox will move Nick Swisher back to Oakland for closer Huston Street or All-Star pitcher Justin Duchscherer,"

In your freaking dreams. I mean, you do mean Nick Swisher of the .230 BA?

Have Griffey play RF and move Dye to 1B. He's played there in the past. Hopefully, Konerko can get out of his slump with some additional days off. He went 4 for 4 after the all-star break, He's too young and has has too much talent to be washed up at this point.

July 31, 2008  07:36 PM ET

I disagree that Griffey has nothing left in his tank. He has hit .318 since the all-star break, obviously looking to get dealt by the Reds. With a carrot of a World Series championship in front of him, I expect him to play well.

July 31, 2008  08:12 PM ET

The Griffey of 2008 is nothing more than a "fourth" O.F.. Of course Ozzie will stab one of his starters in the back to accomidate him - probably Konerko !!!

He hasnt had a 40 HR season since 2000... How can you argue the numbers?? He has only averaged 24 HR a season wearing a Reds Jersey and thats been for 8 years.. The stats speak for themselves he's way past his prime.. The only thing that gave him any news this year was the fact he made it to the 600 mark but it took him almost 20 years to get there..He's washed up and cost 16 mil next year. It's not worth it to the Reds..

Well what do you expect from somebody who is on a team that is fighting with the Pirates the last 8 season for last. If I was a player that was on a shittee team like the Reds, I wouldn't be trying to go ball out for a team that really doesn't appreciate me. With a change of scenary and a chance at the playoffs for the first time since 1997, Griffey is going to be playing alot better than Cinci is making him out to be.

Exactly how is Ozzie stabbing someone in the back when he has put all his confidence in Konerko and letting him try to fight through this offensive problems. Ozzie has never done anything but protect his players even if it cost him his job. And when have you ever seen Ozzie stab his own players in the back. You obviously know not a damn thing about the White Sox or baseball .

Halleluah....Junior needed to be out of Cincy for a long time now. It derailed a great career so hopefully this move will rejuvenate his spirit, body and mind.

Carson...the $16m is a club option and is not going to be picked up. He'll be on the Sox for two months and hopefully contribute to a playoff push.

The Sox aren't looking for a 40 HR season, If Griffey hits 10 more this year that will be fine. His on base percentage will be a big improvement over Konerko. Konerko isn't being thrown under the bus. He has been given plenty of opportunity to get it done. Unfortunately, he has been pushing too hard and has been a liability to their offense.
