Griffey era in Cincy ends on ugly note
The love-hate relationship between Ken Griffey Jr. and Cincinnati is over. The era that began in 2000 with great hope when he arrived ended Thursday with much malice when he was traded to the Chicago White Sox. It came just two days after owner Bob Castellini said general manager Walt Jocketty was not instructed to dump salary. Amazingly, they did NOT dump salary. The Reds are getting a major-league relief pitcher and a minor-league second baseman and are PAYING the $4 million still owed on Griffey's contract. In other words, the Reds wanted to get rid of him in the worst way and did it in the worst way.

Shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath. Mays was a player's player, not a diva.

I've been waithing on this for a long time.. He has done nothing with the years he has played with the Reds now he is supposed to be worth 16 million next year... This guy aint worth anything he's washed up old news that takes up to much cap space.. Cya later Griffey hope you can finally hit the 40 HR mark this year since no one has seen you do it since the new millinium started.

Griffey has always seemed like a decent guy to me.......it just never worked in Cincy, mostly because he was never healthy for long.

Ask any of his teammates if he is a diva and they will say hell no. If not for injuries, this man would be worshipped as the next home run king. Not one steroid rumor has come up about the man. Griffey will be missed in Cincy by his teammates and fans. Thanks for the 9 years you gave your all for Reds fans Griffey, and best of luck on making it to the World Series.

Oddly enough, alll of you, except for Grossedout9, who is largely incomprehensible as usual, are right about Griffey. Griffey, by all accounts, is a decent citizen and a devoted family man. From the stands here in Cincinnati, however, it is plain that he also is bored with baseball. He has pretty plainly become a lazy player and has plenty of moments of surliness, both on and off of the field, which the mainstream sports media likes to sweep under the rug, for whatever reason.

Does any of that stuff help the Reds win the World Series? I think not.. He may be humble but he the numbers speak for themselves. He averaged 37 HR a year with Seattle. He has averaged 24 HR a year for the Reds. I think if he leaves Cincinnati with the fans dissappointed he only has his self to blame.

People act like Griffey was suppose to take the whole team on his back and give them a World Series. Sorry but look at what the Reds have given Griffey to work with since he has been here, beside Dunn he really hasn't had anyone that can make any noise with him, every time you look up they're giving up players that could be something for more prospects.
