Mariners say no to Jays trade

In looking to add a much-needed bat to his impotent offence, Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi ended up like many of his hitters. He went 0-for-2. But at least he went down swinging. The non-waiver trade deadline passed yesterday afternoon with Ricciardi and the Seattle Mariners unable to work out a deal for veteran outfielder Raul Ibanez. Ricciardi also was in on talks to acquire Canadian outfielder Jason Bay of the Pirates, but that deal never really got off the ground. The Mariners were looking to obtain two players for Ibanez while the Pirates wanted a motherlode of four prospects for Bay, who eventually was involved in the three-team blockbuster involving Boston's Manny Ramirez. It is believed that one of the players Ricciardi dangled for Ibanez was right-hander Jesse Litsch, who went 8-7 with the Jays before being optioned to triple-A Syracuse on July 24. Ricciardi wanted to deal. It was the Mariners who eventually said no.

Yes, luhada, I agree. People like you should gargle broken glass. As for the trade, so what? Toronto will be a mover this winter.

Why didn't he try to get Adam Dunn?

JP's going to be gone after this year no matther what happens......slim to no chance the Jays are in the post-season means, "Adios JP!" His 5-year plan has been a bust and the Jays are just lucky that they've got a class act as a number one pitcher. If Doc was like any other greedy superstar he would have asked for, no DEMANDED, a trade years ago. The only saving grace that JP falls back on is the fact that Wells, Rios, Rolen etc etc all chose the same time for their offensive careers to go in the tank...........

Toronto, with some tweaking, could be really good. They have pitching, and they have a few hitters. They're underperforming right now. They need to hire someone like Davey Johnson to come in and kick tail.

BJ's need more than a little tweaking. Look at the Rays and see how they did it: HOMEGROWN, baby. It takes a little more than having a new manager. They need to stop wasting money on guys like Ryan and Burnett and start building the organization. They should have made a deal to trade away some pieces for younger, more valuable talent. Instead, they're holding onto the "what if" no one got injured scenario. How sad...

Wells offensive career didn't go in the tank as you put it. His numbers are good this year for when he's been around. But he got injured......

It's not a given Riccardi is gone at the end of the yr, either.
