Mets contacted Sox about Manny

Omar Minaya tried to make Manny a Met. After the dust finally settled on the blockbuster trade that sent Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers in a three-team deal, Minaya said yesterday the Mets tried this week to bring the disgruntled slugger to Queens. Speaking after yesterday afternoon's non-waivers trade deadline, the Mets' general manager said he made late contact with Boston counterpart Theo Epstein about Ramirez but couldn't meet Epstein's price tag. Minaya said Epstein wanted a "major-league ready outfielder," something in short supply with the Mets. Epstein ultimately found that outfielder in the Pirates' Jason Bay, who was sent to Boston as part of the deal.

boy...how many more days is manny going to have 3 t&rs of his own? perhaps that was in his new deal.

How predictable that we have to get a slew of stories about which players the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs FAILED to get.

I'm no stonemason, but I would have to guess this will last another good week or so.

A major league outfielder eh? The Mets could have given them Easley for Manny. There you go.

Manny story is over, why all the threads? He was traded, past tense, time for some forward looking T&Rs.

I'm just happy he's out of my life.......
He DESTROYED my yanks over the last decade

And we win BIG by subtraction-

August 1, 2008  10:54 AM ET

Wish it happened, but the Mets just didn't have the pieces.

August 1, 2008  11:13 AM ET

All of the lying G.M.s are coming out of the closet now that Manny wasn't traded to their teams !!!

August 1, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Why did they need to send an OF to Boston if they were getting Bay? Shouldn't the Mets have tried to throw prospects to Pittsburgh like LA did?

August 1, 2008  12:06 PM ET

The Mets didn't have the prospects to throw to Pittsburgh. All the Mets have is Martinez and Niese and Omar wasn't going to give them up. The Dodger and Red Sox systems are deeper and better.

Thanks Joe for helping your old team .... and as usual the Sox make another poor trade .... Remember when they booted out Theo ... Spineless owners ... So long Veriteck , you will be the next casualty in a few months when the Sox do their usual culling of those that helped them most .
Manny good luck to you ...and as for the Sox management, you treat your players and always will .....CHEAPLY....

August 3, 2008  12:19 AM ET

Just what the Mets need another semi-washed up Red Sox !!!
