Thirty-six-year old Czech center Petr Nedved, who played 478 games with the Rangers in three stints between 1992-93 and 2003-04, is coming to training camp to try to land a job. "He has spoken with Tom and Glen and passed up some other offers in Europe, wanting to come to camp with the opportunity to earn a job here," a Rangers spokesman confirmed a few moments ago. "There is no commitment on our end." The desire of Nedved, who scored 149 goals and added 202 assists as a Ranger, to give it another shot in New York first came to light this morning in a partial translation of a Czech news report provided by blueshirtbulletin.com. In that translation, Nedved said he hoped for the chance to play "a few minutes on the third or fourth line."

Classic case of a guy who thought he was way better than he was and worth way more than he was begging for a job on the 3rd or 4th line now. What goes around comes around. Sounds like karma to me. Nedved is an a**hole.

Hang it up Petr. You weren't that great to begin with. He needs to stay in the Czech Republic and finish up there. He may be able to go out on some kind of high note that way.

I always thought that the expectations for this guy were a wee bit high. He's a pretty decent player. It could be worse...it could be Petr Klima looking for a job

Whos' he?????

August 1, 2008  10:07 AM ET

I can't believe he is only 36.

All the years I have followed the Blues......this guy was the softest guy I ever saw play for St Louis. Well, him and Danny Quinn

Same draft year as Ricci, Nolan, Primeau, Jagr. The Canucks thought they had a real winner and he was by far the biggest dud of the top 5.

His big thing was he was a Euro defector who was here already (jumped ship at a midget tournament??). And he wore his jersey tucked in on one side like Gretzky did.

Knothead has always been a legend in his own mind.

Just another in a long line of Canuck's draft busts.

Imagine a big defenceman (Lindros big) and softer than GWB's head

In that particular picture, Petr just heard the announcement over the PA system that his model-wife dumped him!

If you're going to invite Nedved may as well invite Shanny. Jerks.

August 1, 2008  10:50 AM ET

That being said I only want Shanny back if he pulled a half-season thing like Niedermayer or Teemu. Too old to be effective in the playoffs.

But you do now.

Yup, they took Michael Small 11th over all I think. He had seemed good at some international kid's tournament over Xmas.....

This was all back in the days when I gave a flying one about juniors and drafts and ****.

Petit was awful. The Garden fans treated him apropriately too. He was so bad here he didn't even get a "Potvin" chant

The Rangers have to be pretty desperate to bring this bum in. I have no idea, but what is their farm system like?
