Clemens closing on Pennington

With each day of the Jets' quarterback competition at training camp, two things become clearer: Kellen Clemens continues to play better, and Brett Favre remains -- at least in terms of rumors -- as much a presence as Clemens or veteran Chad Pennington. Clemens got off to a miserable start but has come on in recent days and might yet put up a good fight. He has thrown the ball well, especially on deep patterns, and has gone two days without throwing an interception after throwing one in each of the first six days of practice.

Can't argue with Chad 's ability to win games....
but you gotta give Clemens a shot-
especially with a better O-line.

it takes most Qb's a couple of years to get rolling- he had his failure last year and we have to see whether he can do anything with a team that is TRYING from the start ....not a team (like last year) that was DONE by week 5 & he was put in to basically get pounded

Generally, teams with a QB controversy have a choice between two mediocre guys. Thus, either way, the team remains mediocre. That is true here.

tell it-
you are partially correct-

But....we don't know if clemens is mediocre....yet....
he is still YOUNG....hasn't even started 10 games in his career...

I am not saying he will be tom Brady-
but he may turn into a decent player-

The state of QB talent in the NFL is abysmal.

BP Dave,
agreed, there are on average 10-12 capable QBs and 32 teams!!! Streaks and mental state may take that number to 20 during a season and then injuries and confidence bring it back down.
Eli M would be an example of a fella who was "average" (in the eyes of the press and even sub-average in the eyes of some fans (note "SOME" fans for Giants readers)) and then he got hot and catapulted himself to the upper tier for the playoffs.

jgb,
not clear on your style of writing-
along with the avatar-

should we be singing these lines-
any particular tune_

maybe "swing low sweet chariot--??

Well I am up in the air. As a Jets fan I could see it going either way. I think I would have to lean towards Clemens though. He is younger and has a better arm, although he has to get more experience under his belt to become a better quarterback. You cant get any exp if you sit on the sideline. Right now Clemens is the Jets future, and hopefully it works out and he is under center for many years to come. Last season was hard, bottom line there was no line. WIth all of the upgrades everything should improve, qb running game defense. I can't wait.
