Running back Ryan Grant scored a major victory in his negotiations with the Green Bay Packers, agreeing to terms on a four-year contract loaded with incentives and escalators that could earn him $30 million, according to his agent, Alan Herman. The Packers started out offering only a $1.75 million signing bonus, but Herman was able to negotiate a deal that will pay Grant a $3 million roster bonus when he signs the contract and another $1.25 million this year through base salary ($750,000) and another roster bonus ($500,000). Thus, Grant will earn $4.25 million in 2008. Over two years, his take will be $8 million. As for Grant, negotiations looked to be going nowhere when the Packers tore apart Herman's first proposal and came back with a deal offering only about $2 million in the first year. But negotiations heated up at the end of last week.

lol he's not worth that much. Another example of the packers franchise being taken advantage of. Grant and Favre are doing a number on this franchise

hope none of it is guaranteed.

They better hope and pray this guy is not a 1 season wonder...there's a lot of risk here.

Giving that money to a guy who had one year of mediocrity, and almost fumbled away a playoff game (wasn't it like 3 consecutive fumbles?)

August 3, 2008  11:43 AM ET

nice pic von dozier, I hope the colts can get a least one more before tony leaves and have bob sanders be the superbowl mvp, and have the losing team be the giants or saints

August 3, 2008  12:34 PM ET

Yes, three fumbles to Seattle in like 5 minutes.....funny to me, not funny to Seahawk fans as they ultimately lost the game....

August 3, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Why would he accept that deal? He should have held out and demanded $20M to stay home and not play for the next ten years.

Smart move since they need him more than he needs them. Moreover, their 1st contract offer was an insult. Guess who jumped up to the 2nd round of the Fantasy draft? 956 yards (8 TDs) in 7 games started, hmmmmm, "one year of mediocrity"....yeah, ok.

Great timing to make demands. The football world's eyea are on GB and either Ryan or Heiman saw that it was the right moment and pounced. Kudos to you both.

August 3, 2008  05:58 PM ET

He's worth the gamble.

August 3, 2008  07:59 PM ET

he actually is worth that much if he plays good and if he blows, then from what i can see theres not too much guaranteed

August 3, 2008  11:41 PM ET

Let me understand this. A guy has a half season of really good football, whines for more money than his contract calls for and the Packers give in??? And give him $4 million a season after incentives, whatever?!!!!! For around 8 games of good play he gets $4 million a year? I wish I could get a raise like that for working my butt off for 6 months a year.. Sheesh!!! Once again, the whiny athlete wins.
