Is there now a zero-tolerance policy for Steve Smith? I asked Carolina coach John Fox and he wouldn't say for sure, but he did acknowledge that Smith had been given certain conditions for the future.

read he got a 2 game suspension from the panthers for it. can you blame them?

August 3, 2008  10:49 AM ET

The commissioner should be the one to determine his suspension, not the team that needs him to be on the field, in order to win games.
Two games is weak, for a second incident .

I heard that he could lose up to $200,000..damn...

...which amounts to about twenty bucks for non-celebrities...

If the fight happens between teammates, then the team should be the ones to determine discipline. If an altercation happens between opposing team members, that's when the league comes into the picture.

anybody see teh reebok advertisement to teh right with steve smiths hands taped and him making punching motions. Classic

August 3, 2008  12:17 PM ET

I'm getting budweiser ads... I think they want me to remember that it is an American beer!! Owned by a Belgium Corp now!!

August 3, 2008  12:54 PM ET

Fox had to do something...it's not the first incident for Smith. He should act like the team leader instead of the team idiot.

August 3, 2008  01:06 PM ET

Sounds like "Double Secret Probation" to me.

August 3, 2008  02:00 PM ET

Just so I'm clear, the "zero-tolerance" policy takes effect after you punch TWO teammates? OK, got it.

Heard reports of a Smith Tito Ortiz fight in the making. Tito hasnt won anything in awhile and said it would be nice to beat somthin in front of his porn star wife other than his own wanger!!!!!!

Notice Smith didn't pull that crap with a defensive or offensive lineman. I'd love to see him get in Julius Peppers' face.

August 3, 2008  09:48 PM ET

Id like to see him with Julius's peppers on his face.

August 3, 2008  10:32 PM ET

Like it or not the Panthers will start the season 0-2.

August 3, 2008  10:47 PM ET

What a punk! Take a shot at a guy while he's down on one knee, unsuspecting of anything. Its Manny Ramirez in Carolina, except Smith got fined and suspended.

Anyone know what provoked it?
