Walker tried to retire from Raiders
Raiders receiver Javon Walker's troubled career took another enigmatic turn Thursday when he told team officials he wanted to retire, only to change his mind one day later. Walker declined to discuss the specifics and wondered out loud what all the fuss was about. "That's a done issue," Walker said after training camp practice Saturday in Napa. "I'm not sure what happened, but that's a done issue." Raiders coach Lane Kiffin isn't so sure. The team signed Walker, 29, to a six-year deal worth up to $55 million in March. The idea was for Walker to bring star power to the passing game as the No. 1 receiver. Five months later, after little more than one week of training camp, he offered to return $11 million of guaranteed money and walk away from football.

Man if this story is true then Al Davis should have called his lawyer immediately and let this guy retire before he changed his mind. I can't see this signing going well at all! I'm a Redskin fan and I thought the over inflated contract signing of Adam Archuleta could never be topped but this one is going to do it. At least the Skins were actually somehow able to unload Archuleta to the Bears. Good luck on anyone taking a flier on this guy.

I don't know how much longer the Raider nation can hang on with this spectacle raging. This is a total embarrassment of an organization in the mgmt department and as a consequence the players and team are totally ineffective. I feel for them.

It's great to know, that you have a player that you have to "convince " to even want to play, after you paid them big bucks to sign.
I guess everyones gonna see how far the raiders can go with a bunch of overpaid undermotivated individuals as opposed to a team of hungry motivated well coached teamates.

I read this morning that Al Davis talked Javon Walker into not retiring. Maybe in Al's mind he thought he was talking to Brett Favre instead.

Guess he wanted a practice retirement ceremony like Favre and Seau.

Why would you want a guy on your team that is not sure he wants to play? I guess it really doens't matter, he will be hurt the majority of the time that he is in Oakland anyway.
