David Wells admitted at Old-Timers' Day that he's basically done playing. "I'm not going to officially do it," he said of retiring. "I'm just going to just ride off into the sunset." The 45-year-old Wells pitched last year for the Padres and Dodgers but said yesterday he didn't get any takers this season.

No one wanted a washed-up fat guy?

time to hang up the cleats, and put the glove away.. its over BOOMER, time to do what retired baseball players do, GOOD FISHIN'

August 3, 2008  09:49 AM ET

If a team called today, he'd be suited up by game time tomorrow.

August 3, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Too bad he couldn't pitch just one more for the Dodgers. Between him, Manny and Jones, it would have given fresh new meaning to the term "The Biggest Loser."

In other breaking news, Chris Farley is apparently retired from acting.

I feel bad for the poor horse he'll be riding more than anything!

August 3, 2008  11:49 AM ET

The horse should worry more about being dinner when the ride's finished than the trip itself. But seriously, folks, good luck to the Boomer, who clearly never used steroids

But at what point does the abuse of trans fats become a problem?

August 3, 2008  12:40 PM ET

Trans fat abuse, while no doubt a serious problem, Atro, was never illegal during Wells' career, despite unfounded accusations that he doctored the ball with the stuff.

He could replace Ponson or they could both get smashed and pitch together ?

August 3, 2008  01:41 PM ET

Ask Brett Favre for some advice on how to orchestrate a retirement.

The fact that Ponson still has a job probably has given him hope......

Grossedout, nice jersey in your picture. Is that for your gay volleyball team?

Hell, the Braves could've used him, and I wished at times we'd (they'd) signed him
