One interesting thing heard about the Ivan Rodriguez-Kyle Farnsworth deal came from an AL executive, who said, "I'm sure it was a no-brainer for the Yankees. For at some point I think they knew that Kyle Farnsworth, as well as he's pitched, would become Kyle Farnsworth."

There is a shirt sold outside of Yankee Stadium that says it all, "Anyone But Farnsworth"

Farnsworth may very well come back and pitch really really well for another team this year or next -- that's the chance you take with any trade. I think they would have dropped him next year anyway -- his salary was way too high for his value to the team.

How was this guy ever expected to be good and why did he get such a large contract. I don't get players that don't seem to me to be good enough for AAA but just because of ONE good season they get a multiple year deal worth way more then their value. The Yankees just completed a one sided trade, kudos!

I mostly saw Farnsworth pitch when he was with the Cubs....if he came into games when the Cubs were behind or when they had a big lead, he looked like the greatest pitcher in the history of the game...just blowing people away. If he came in witha one run lead, you could see panic on his face, and he would inevitably get in trouble. To me, he just seemed to not respond to the pressure situations.

Pudge is cuter than Farnsworth, will fit in better with the Yankees ...

You cant have a set-up man who can only go every other day to be effective..if you look at Farnsworth's strong July, he was only asked to pitch back to back days once...and that's always been his problem. That won't cut it in September or the playoffs

Spot on. He always seemed to lose the important ones. He was highly touted before he came up, but just never lived up to billing. Yankees got the best of the Tigers.

I never forget the way he blew a HUGE lead in the playoffs for the Braves before he came to New York. To me that was classic Farnsworth.

Silver-
you are certainly entitled to your opinion-
but your ENTIRE comment is a joke.

a) if you ever actually WATCHED him play-
you'd know he is SOFT and HORRIBLY inconsistent
which is why he has been on a million teams and CAN'T close
b) he's a free agent after this year
c) the Yankees RARELY shy away from big contracts - (see entire roster)

Good By Bow Wow , or is it Mr Softy , whatch him melt once the heat is turned up

Farnsworth is still hurting the Yankee's even though he doesn't pitch for them anymore. He gave up the lead in the 8th inning today blowing the game for the Tigers and allowing the Rays to win the game. If this guy was any good he wouldn't be traded every year.

who's this spineless executive?

The Tiger's just have no mojo. They are flat, inconsistent, and the pitching so awkwardly variable and poor that there is no way they can win the wild card much less the division. I should have known not to get my hopes up too much.
