UGA players suspended after fight

Two Georgia football players were suspended indefinitely by coach Mark Richt after a wild weekend in downtown Athens resulted in one player's arrest and two others being sent to the hospital. There are reports that other Georgia football players may have been involved in the fight or possibly committed other offenses. UGA spokesman Claude Felton said Richt "is looking into everything." Long snapper Jeff Henson, a junior from Gainesville, was arrested for public intoxication and urinating in public. He was booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail at 3:46 a.m. and was released on $750 bond at 10 a.m. Because Henson also was charged with DUI last November -- he missed the Sugar Bowl as punishment -- he was suspended indefinitely. Junior safety Donavon Baldwin also was suspended indefinitely for his involvement in an unrelated altercation at a bar. Baldwin, who was already serving a one-game suspension because of a DUI arrest in January, was sent to St. Mary's Hospital after getting hit in the head with a beer bottle.

The ride to the National Championship can be rough Coach Richt, better buckle up.

At least we're not the only ones making headlines.

This is clearly Mark Richts fault. He's too old and he has clearly lost control of his team!!

August 3, 2008  12:17 PM ET

old? I think he's still in 40's, he's not old.

August 3, 2008  12:26 PM ET

LSU, it's a joke (I assume, anyway) from the truth&rumors about the Sooner player that got kicked off. NWPA had said Stoops (at 48) is too old and lost control over his team.

I'm being sarcastic. JoePa was ripped up and down by T&R & ESPN OTL this past week for players fighting.

Great PR for Georgia. This team really looks, and parties HARD!

Way to go dawgs! Classy.

there must be some rule in college football that requires all schools to have at least 3-4 thugs on every team kinda like they do in europe where they have 1-3 americans on the roster

Georgia is auditioning to replace Miami as the "U"!

August 4, 2008  09:19 AM ET

I jump on this site almost every day just because I'm a college football fanatic and it's just sad to see so many schools and their athletes being suspended, arrested, or kicked off the team for off field incidents or academic ineligibility issues. Georgia is just one of many that have had this problem; however, it just seems to me that SEC schools seem to be popping up more often than other big conference schools. I could be wrong, I haven't looked at the numbers comparatively with other conferences...I'm just basing this on what I've seen on this website. I think it would be a pretty interesting statistic to find out.
