Ozzie threatens KC; ump's sorry

The White Sox were tossed out of first place Sunday, but they issued a warning and eventually got an apology as a consolation prize. After a 14-3 blowout loss to the Royals, manager Ozzie Guillen expressed disbelief over the ejection of reliever D.J. Carrasco and himself after Miguel Olivo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded during a five-run fifth inning. "Some people have to have a little common sense," Guillen said of the umpiring crew. Umpires initially ruled that Carrasco had intentionally thrown at Olivo, sparking a bench-clearing incident in which Carrasco landed a soft punch on Olivo and Olivo retaliated at Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who was trying to play peacemaker. After watching the videotape, umpire Gary Cederstrom issued an apology in the Sox's coaches' office. But that came after Guillen had criticized the umpiring crew and had threatened the Royals after the latest in a series of incidents.

I saw that live and I don't think that Carrasco should have been tossed either. Olivo should be suspended however. He charged the mound like a little girl and caused Carrasco to defend himself. He was lucky Pierzynski got a hold of him before he had the crap knocked out of him.

Dem spunky Royals...my new favorite team.

August 4, 2008  07:06 AM ET

And they wonder why nobody likes soccer!

Did anyone notice how Ritchie got his little bltch slap on as Olivo was being held by Pierzynski? What a real tough guy. Pierzynski did what he was supposed to do in protecting his pitcher, I give him that. Otherwise Ritchie would have been flattened by Olivo
.

I'm sure Ozzie tried to make his point but how in the hell can an ump understand him. I played his post game three times and still couldn't make sence out of it.

I noticed......the whole thing was pretty funny.......especially the way Olivo pulled up just as he got to the mound and squared off like he wanted to fight. I think he was waiting for Pierzynski to grab him and save his butt. I also noticed the sucker slap that Olivo delivered to Pierzynski. Like I said, it was all pretty funny. Almost as good as the fracas in Minnesota.

Gotta love the Royals.. they live for upsets. Too bad they cannot play to be in the race but I guess be glad they can at least win at times...weird organization.

Ozzie is also a nut.. his emotion has affected this team badly many times. Good manager of the game but poor leader emtionally..

August 4, 2008  09:19 AM ET

I thought the whole this was pretty funny, i was watching it on sports center and have to agree that OZZIE is a nut job, it looked he was going to seize out there

Twins Fan 2 - The reason Olivo charged was because he had enough of the White Sox. They have hit him 3 times this year. And on Sunday DJ Carasco threw 3 straight pitches up and in. Still don't understand?

August 4, 2008  09:31 AM ET

I wish Trey Hillman, the Royals coach, would have choked Ozzie out. Or, at least put him in the figure four leg lock and make him tap. Guillen is easily my least favorite person in sports. How he is the Manager of a MLB team is beyond me. He can't speak good english. His temper is terrible, and he always wants the spotlight on him. The guy is a loser.

I feel sorry for the ump in that photo. You just know that Ozzie's breath smells like an used diaper.

No I don't understand charging the mound. Up and in is a great way to get hitters to stop crowding the plate.

I like how Ozzie threatened the Royals by saying that he just signed a 5 year contract and they will be seeing the Royals a lot. Maybe this is the fire to stir this Royals team up. We need a rivalry. We are no where near as good as the Sox, Tigers or Twins, but this team is getting better. Still need another bat and a good starter.

August 4, 2008  09:45 AM ET

It was 6-0 after three and he's b*tching about someone bunting??? The Sox came back on Saturday after the Royals had a pretty good lead. Guillen is a flipping nut job. Bases loaded, it doesn't make sense that they would beam someone. But I guess Olivo had had enough. Glad the Royals pasted them.

AJ trying to play PEACEMAKER? Clearly written by a Chicago writer....

I only know that the only team in the central division that gives me the willies when the Twins play them are the Royals. The Royals have the Twins number and always have.

August 4, 2008  09:50 AM ET

let's see, the pitcher threw high and in to Olivo, after he hit a double I believe, and while backing out of the way it hit his bat...then the next pitch, he actually DID hit him...

Hmmm...I don't care what Ozzie says, that doesn't happen on accident twice

August 4, 2008  09:52 AM ET

Anyone catch Carrasco's paw punch at Olivio? I've seen harder jabs at a Geriatric Clinic

August 4, 2008  09:57 AM ET

I like how Ozzie threatens the Royals and no suspension or fine...but Gardy kicks his hat and gets a 1 day suspension and fine...
