Grossman making his move?

After Rex Grossman ended Sunday's practice by launching a Hail Mary pass that was caught by Devin Hester, one figured it had to be Grossman's day. It was. The Bears quarterback shook off a lackluster performance Friday night at Soldier Field by connecting on just about everything Sunday. He ran the Bears' first-team offense and completed his first six passes in seven-on-seven drills, including a dart across the middle that tight end Greg Olsen palmed with one hand. When the Bears went to full-squad work, Grossman completed 15 of 18 passes. Though encouraged by Grossman's showing, coach Lovie Smith didn't want to go overboard. Grossman later implied somewhat that the quarterback competition could be decided after the first two exhibitions. To win it, he'll need to duplicate what he did Sunday.

"Grossman making his move?"

to which arena team?

August 4, 2008  07:24 AM ET

Looked "gross" on Friday, but then woke up to chuck a pass to Hester during drills. Okay, he's just fine. lol

Friday's performance, Sunday's practice, some of the training camp, la la la. Just so long as they don't look at last SEASON or some of the games this guy has had he is great. As a matter of fact, don't look at the whole offense. Another year like last one and Lovie will be called Hatie.

Oh what a tease! Bears fans read "Grossman making his move?" and assumed he was going to another team, but nope --- He's still the starting interception chunker in Chicago!

feast or famine with this guy, mostly famine though.

August 4, 2008  08:36 AM ET

it must all be about the NFC north today ...

August 4, 2008  08:37 AM ET

Wow. Was this team actually in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago?

August 4, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Grossman is the best teammate when he's playing against your favorite team especially when it matters :)

August 4, 2008  09:10 AM ET

I saw the headline, and I thought he'd applied at UPS.

August 4, 2008  09:36 AM ET

He can play, he is just not consistent. Nobody doubts his arm strength, but he has one great game, then the next game he is horrible. If your going to be an NFL quarterback you have to be more consistent.

I don't know hitman. It worked for Eli Manning.

August 4, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Would Eli have won the Super Bowl if he stayed with LT in San Diego?

I would argue that Eli has been more consistent than Grossman. I woudln't say Eli has been great, he has been pretty average, but he has not played as bad as Grossman has. Granted Eli has better offense around him than the Bears do.

August 4, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Would Rivers have won a Superbowl without LT?

August 4, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Except Eli had 3 or 4 bad games during the season Grossman had alot more and that doesn't even include the playoffs. Eli's a scrappy qb grossman is just badly coached.

maybe they should trade for manny

The funny thing is that Rex and the Bears O scored the same amount of points in our Superbowl loss as Eli did in the Giants win. Unfortunately our D didn't get it done.

The thing that drives Bears fans nuts is that the guy actually does have the ability.
We haven't had many QBs around here post up over 100 ratings, and Rex has done it several times.....But....there's those huge clunkers he needs to get past.

Unfortunately he'll be running for his life again because our o-line is still in shambles.

Ugh

Bears4ever..finally a decently thought out comment. Agree completely.

The three back-up QBs the Patriots have are better than Rex Grossoutman. For that matter every NFL team has backup QBs better than him - including Da Bears !!!
