Indians seeking new closer

Here's the preliminary list: Salomon Torres, Francisco Rodriguez, Brandon Lyon, Jason Isringhausen, Trevor Hoffman and Brian Fuentes. These relievers are prospective free agents, though Torres has an option for 2009. All save games for a living. Will any of them end up as the Indians' closer next season? Or, if the Tribe chooses not to sign a free agent, or can't, what about a trade, possibly for Huston Street or Jose Valverde? Maybe it will be none of the above. It's possible General Manager Mark Shapiro will acquire a reliever who has not closed in the past, but looks promising in that role. It's far too early to tell what direction Shapiro will go, but one thing is almost certain: By the time spring training begins, manager Eric Wedge will have his man. Asked Sunday if spring training would be a proper place to conduct the search for a closer, Wedge said, ''No, that would not be a good idea."

The Brewers will be looking too. The mess that is in place now is a disaster.

lol @ Jr...

I think Joe Borowski should try Drew Hensen... I mean why not... They couldn't do any worse.

Hernandez is available. He is a lousy starter, maybe he could be a good closer. After the whole game of seein 90 mph+ pitches from the starters, he could come in and baffle the hitters with his 84 mph fastball.

K-Rod will get mega bucks this winter. I don't think the Tribe can foot the bill.

Here I thought that I was harrassing the Captain and it turns out that I was answering a wanna be. It will take more than wearing that avatar to become someone of importance in these here threads. Give it a rest. I even remember when the Captain cmplimented you on that avatar you wore showing the mess. Go back to your buds from the barrio and the ESPN faker and leave here.

I'd like to see the Sox take some of Manny's money and go get K-Rod and make Papelbon a starter.
