Eddie Guardado was called upon to close the Rangers game against the Jays. He didn't earn a save, but he started warming up before the Rangers added three runs in the eighth inning and turned his appearance into a non-save situation in an 8-4 victory. Ron Washington cautioned to not read anything into his decision to use Guardado about 48 hours after the club changed pitching coaches. C.J. Wilson is the closer, and Guardado's appearance was the result of Washington responding to a gut feeling.

Everyday Eddie would probably still be a good closer.

Give it time.. they are done anyways for the race.

Why would you burn your closer in a non-save situation? That is why the writers at the Ft Worh Star-Telegram don't manage the team.

Seems like the FanNation reporters have a little too much time on their hands !!!

This is a non-story. They aren't going to make Guardado the regular closer at his age and with FA looming. Part of what makes a good manager is going with your instinct at times, and that is what Washington did here......not a big deal or sign of things to come.
