Joba's '08 return uncertain

Surrounded on the mound by manager Joe Girardi, trainer Steve Donohue and concerned teammates, Joba Chamberlain pointed to a tender spot in the front of his right shoulder - and maybe he was pointing toward the exit to this Yankee season, too. Girardi said he expects Chamberlain to miss at least one start. Girardi said, "We don't think it is serious." But keep in mind how cautious the Yanks have been with Chamberlain from the Joba Rules last year to a severe innings cap this year that forced him to begin the season in the pen to restrict his workload. So - desperate pennant race or not - you know the Yanks are going to keep Chamberlain off the mound until they are positive he is at no risk. The Yanks are not going to speed up the clock on Phil Hughes, who is just now getting to Triple-A and due to make 65 pitches in his next start.

Just what they didn't need now. The Yanks were making a push forward, but now the mound may have a small hole in it.

Hope not but it will be even more impressive when the Yankees make the playoffs.

And the hits just keep on comin'. Somehow I don't think I'll be deciding on whether to go to Rangers opening day at the Garden or a Yankee playoff game like last year.
Mornin JFK. For some reason I don't see your remark as sincere.

I don't wish any injury or illness on anyone. As a sports fan, I want to play against a team at their full strength and beat them. Beating the Yankees now is like beating up the kid on the short bus. Initially it is fun but you get tired of it quickly!

Making fun of the kid on the short bus is one thing but beating him up? And I thought I went to a tough school.

Funny...I think the kid on the short bus was kicking your butt last weekend. That can't feel too good.

This is the BEST news I've heard all day!

Go Angels!

Hey, JFK.

I gotta say...any fan who celebrates ANYONE'S injury is just an ****.

August 5, 2008  08:19 AM ET

If it's not a life threatening injury and it's not on your team, it's ok to celebrate it.

In my neighborhood the kids with "behavior issues" were placed on the short bus. Going near that bus, much less starting crap on the bus was taking your life into your hands.

What does being a kracker have anything to do with it? Anyway, I have said all along, get Joba back to the pen, where he belongs, before it's too late. Now it's too late. Good morning dudes and lurking dudettes.

This will jack up the Yankees' interest in acquiring Freddy Garcia, I would think.
