Notre Dame investigating Clausen

For the second time in a year, Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen may have to explain his alleged participation in a situation involving alcohol. And at least two other teammates might be doing some explaining with him. Notre Dame will investigate possible school code violations after the Web site The Big Lead posted photos Monday that appear to depict Clausen, teammates Brian Smith and James Aldridge and one other individual attending what the site labeled "Beer Olympics." No matter the date of the photos, at least two of the players would not be of legal drinking age: Clausen, who does not turn 21 until Sept. 21, and Smith, who does not reach 21 until 2010. Aldridge turned 21 on July 6. The pictures are not dated, and while there is beer on the table in front of the players, the photos do not show the players actively consuming alcohol.

oh my! how are the NBC announcers going to explain this one away? Touchdown Jesus is going to be very disappointed with his "chosen ones"

Just REACHING for a story! It's not like there's a police report about the players fighting or driving around after the "party". Just college kids being kids.

I understand you should be 21 if you're drinking, but how many college kids do that?

Also, how do they know it was beer on the table? Did the reporter have any? Just because someone labeled it "Beer Olympics."

"the photos do not show the players actively consuming alcohol." & there you have it.

This is why no one wants to go to Notre Dame anymore.

Charlie Weis will drive you to drink and become an alcoholic. How's that for a decisive strategic advantage?

August 5, 2008  08:08 AM ET

Weapon X,

Actually, ND has been doing a fantastic job getting talented recruits..a lot of that is probably due to Weis' negative recruiting but he's doing it!

August 5, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Wait a minute -- college kids went to a party? No! The horror.

How is this a story?

August 5, 2008  08:15 AM ET

I have heard there is also a picture of a teenage Clausen sitting at a dinner table next to a man with a glass of wine, labled "Dinner at steak and ALE"
This is way way over the edge. We should search the hard drive of the reporter for this story and see what he does in his spare time. The day a college quarterback can't go to a campus party is the day I stop playing the game (NCAA 2009).
Next thing you know they'll be saying politicians shouldn't have girlfriends.

August 5, 2008  08:23 AM ET

I am waiting for the picture of Clausen leaving a Hair Club For Men store.

August 5, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Oh, my gawd! College kids may be drinking! News at 11! I know this is "normal," even though not proper or smart, to do. Get off the kid. My, oh, my.

August 5, 2008  08:45 AM ET

They may as well take a look into every other college football program in america then! I mean come on, college=alotta drinking! Hell, when I walked across the stage I was drunk!

August 5, 2008  08:48 AM ET

ND won't lead off their follow up season to a 2-10 record with their QB on the bench over this. This is a dumb story.

True, but what I'm saying is, they aren't as easy to win over.

August 5, 2008  08:49 AM ET

If I had to put with "sir charles the fat" i would drink also, a lot!

August 5, 2008  09:05 AM ET

If the cups weren't in his hand, you can't say he was drinking.

August 5, 2008  09:15 AM ET

ITS COLLEGE!! THere is supposed to be beer everywhere and if it doesn't show them drinking...LET IT GO!!

August 5, 2008  09:17 AM ET

Oh well... looks like these guys will have to transfer to FSU, or Miami where that sort of activity is the norm and wouldn't even raise an eyebrow.

August 5, 2008  09:23 AM ET

The issue here is the school's conduct code and whether or not it was violated,at least that's what I read into it. 99% of college kids drink underage and party (no news there), but will it affect his place on the team. And the cups were in his hand IARYAW.

August 5, 2008  09:33 AM ET

None of this matters as he a starting QB on the football team...he will be slapped on wrist and allowed to lay an entire season helping the Irish turn things around....

August 5, 2008  09:33 AM ET

*play...sorry!!

Bad Jimmy! What would Rudi have done?
