Several Yankees employees who scouted in the Dominican Republic have been placed on leave by the organization pending an investigation by Major League Baseball into the signing of prospects, according to a person in baseball who has been briefed on the matter. Major League Baseball and the F.B.I. are investigating whether club employees paid players small portions of bonuses they reported to baseball and kept the difference for themselves. The Yankees are among the six to eight teams that are being looked at as part of the investigation, the person said.

Maybe homeland security should get involved and check for temp work visas for BOTH stadium workers and players! The IRS is looming over Bud's shoulder!

Wait....wait.....WAIT.....People involved with the Yankees acting GREEDY? Nooooooooo waaaayyyyyy.

August 5, 2008  08:13 AM ET

Stay classy Yanks.

August 5, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Why the **** would the FBI care? Don't they have real crimes or terror or something to deal with? Jeez...

August 5, 2008  08:31 AM ET

They're looking into 6-8 teams but the headline only mentions the Yankees. Yeah, and the Yanks were the only ones taking steriods and when they tear down the stadium they'll find the Lindburg baby and Hoffa. The Yanks are also responsible for the high gas prices and global warming.

August 5, 2008  08:32 AM ET

FBI chases money not criminals thats why they have interest. If they can fine an organization that has cash (Yankees) they do it. Lets face it Terrorists don't have cash!

August 5, 2008  08:34 AM ET

The headline on the home page is incredibly misleading. Oh, a news organization using the Yankees to hype their much less sexy story.....

Why doesn't the article even mention any of the other teams? Why not print the entire article? ..Another media outlet to spin articles to grab headlines and try make the Yanks look bad

August 5, 2008  09:15 AM ET

I wonder why SI won't print the entire article that includes the names of the other teams involved? Funny how it's only the Yankees that are mentioned. SI is just another example of the media censoring news to spin it how they want-- to sell headlines and make some teams look bad.

I would think that this information would be somewhat important to mention.: (From ESPN.com)

Pablo Lantigua, a Boston Red Sox scout in the Dominican Republic, was fired last week after baseball investigators confronted him about allegedly skimming signing bonuses, the Web site reported, citing an unidentified Major League Baseball source.

ESPN said the probe is likely to implicate about 20 people connected to several clubs, according to unidentified sources, and the investigation has been expanded into Venezuela, where many big league teams run player academies.

In May, the Chicago White Sox fired senior director of player personnel David Wilder along with two other Dominican Republic scouts, Victor Mateo and Domingo Toribio, after a two-month probe by Major League Baseball???s Department of Investigations.

You stay classy, too, Boston and Chisox.

Doesn't the FBI have something better to do then investagate the MLB, the Yankee's and other 6-8 teams involved.. Give me a break,

August 5, 2008  09:26 AM ET

I love that picture of Bud.

August 5, 2008  09:27 AM ET

How did they fit the entire Yankees organization on the grassy knoll?

August 5, 2008  09:37 AM ET

And I thought Roger Goodell's photo was bad! Man FN T&R must really hate commissioners!
