Peter Forsberg scored a hat trick! Keep in mind that it was in an exhibition game. Nonetheless, Forsberg's team, which includes several Swedish NHL stars, beat Luleo, a Swedish elite-level team, 11-4, on Tuesday. It was Forsberg's first time playing since the Avs were eliminated by Detroit in the second round of the playoffs in April. "He moved around without any problem, and he looked pretty fresh," Swedish national coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. Forsberg, 35, said last month he did not expect to be able to play in the NHL until Christmas at the earliest because of lingering foot problems. But Forsberg's physician, Dr. Bertil Romanus, told the Swedish media he is optimistic about Forsberg playing again. Forsberg, a free agent, has said he only wants to play for the Avalanche if he does return to the NHL.

Had enough of Mats have you??

August 6, 2008  07:54 AM ET

His team won 11-4? It sounds like the equipment manager or the goalie coach could have notched an HT.

August 6, 2008  08:00 AM ET

Well, we haven't seen any Swedes for three days, I suppose it was too good to last. Sigh.

August 6, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Swedish MEatballs it is!!!!!!

August 6, 2008  09:59 AM ET

ahhhhhhhhhh yes...prediction...he'll come back to AVs (good cuz he takes up salary) and he'll only play 20 games entire season. Retire already !!!

August 6, 2008  10:02 AM ET

Well of course he did, he was playing against his kid's little league team. So let me get this straight: you can't play in the NSL until December, but you just scored a hat trick in Sweden? Whatever man.

What's the NSL????

National Scientology League. Don't you know Bettman is in cahoots with them? Seabird and I will fill you in on the conspiracy.

I thought it was the Ninny Snivellers league, that Bettman is also Commisioner of

BETTMAN IS A SNIVELLING NINNY

Yes, yes, and yes. All of those work. Other times it's the Non-stop Sundin League. It just goes to show that you get a lot of coverage when you win the Conn Smythe. Sundin did win the Conn Smythe, right? Otherwise this coverage is absurd.

August 6, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Not sure why he'll "only" return to the Avalanche... that team is heading for a falll. I don't see them making the playoffs this year.

August 6, 2008  12:33 PM ET

As an Avs fan I am sick of seeing the team going in the wrong direction. Take a look at all of the top teams in the NHL and they all have young, fast players who show massivie potential. While I hope that Sakic returns for one more year because he is such a class act and legend, Colorado made a major mistake in signing Foote to a 2 year contract and they need to let Forsberg go. Holding on to old players past their prime will do nothing in today's NHL. Signing Forsberg again would me a major mistake. I'd rather see Colorado save the money and throw it at a younger player in the next few years.

Shhhh, You don't want Bettman to hear you. Sometimes he is disguised as either T. Crusie or J. Travolta ( and if you listen closely, you may be able to hear the spaceship hovering above the Maple Leaf Gardens. It's Battlefield Toronto ). Only the All Knowing Eye can see behind these nefarious disguises and is FN's resident expert at discerning the conspiracies that lurk around us. For example, why was Crosby called for so few penalties in last year's playoffs ?? Hmmmm......And why was Holstrom allowed to park himself in the crease at will during the Finals? Mere coincidence? Pertinent to today's news, why have there been 68 Mats Sundin stories in the past month? These are questions for no mere mortal.........O Blessed Be The All Knowing Eye!!

Mini-Me is in cahoots (haha, cahoots!) with the Scientologists! This would explain more than a few things...

August 6, 2008  12:47 PM ET

Uh, that would be the All Seeing Eye. I'm a little sleep deprived today.

August 6, 2008  12:49 PM ET

Maizeandblue, too bad you're an Avs fan, but god bless ya for being a Go Blue! fan.

I was lamenting the same thing about the Wings years ago when we lost to you in the playoffs. I said the Avs were better at developing young talent (Drury and Heijduk) at the time and I was wishing the Wings could work on getting young, fast legs in there. Well shortly thereafter Pavel and Hank came along and that's certainly made me happy.

Colorado is a pretty classy organization and the fan support is there, so hopefully they'll rebound. All those injuries didn't help either.

August 6, 2008  01:05 PM ET

The Pittsburg (PA) conspiracy this year all begins with All the Right Moves and the Ampipe (PA) football team. All the signs are there.

August 6, 2008  01:40 PM ET

Please God make it stop!! Mats and Forsberg both need to retire and be done. I can't stand another season of will he or won't he, can he or can't he, this team or that team. GO AWAY!!!!

I'm wondering. I've been here a relatively short time. But is this the worst selection EVER of NHL T&Rs?
