Jets still interested in Favre

Brett Favre apparently no longer wants to play in Green Bay and is prepared to play elsewhere - and elsewhere may include the Jets. Although the Buccaneers remain the most likely landing spot for the future Hall of Fame quarterback, the Jets have emerged as a contender in the Favre sweepstakes. Favre spoke directly to the Jets and Bucs Tuesday night, ESPN and the NFL Network reported. That Favre spoke to the Jets represents a change of heart, one that could give Jets fans a glimmer of hope. The Jets have maintained an ongoing dialogue with Favre's agent since July 25, the Daily News has reported. That was when they first received permission to speak with Favre. They also have had trade talks with the Packers. At one point, the Jets flirted with the idea of flying an entourage of team officials to Favre's home in Mississippi in an attempt to woo him.

Why would he want to go to the stinking Jets and have a greater risk of getting hurt? At least Tampa Bay has a decent shot to win something.

Jets lose again. Favre going to the Bucs.

Jets. What a disaster of an organization.

Captain ego-tastic rams his backside into GB only to find that no one wants the tired act anymore. Watching him bid for TV time with Chuckie will be the greatest sideshow on Sunday.

All you Favre fans, this must hurt. You cant believe that the old gunslinger is over the hill and wont be throwing shovel passes for your just-over-mediocre team on 3rd and 18 anymore. no more high-fiving refs and throwing snowballs and ignoring your teammates and turning the death of your father and cancer for your wife into media events. this favre is more of a media **** than paris or brittany. wait until he gets to a city that really does not give a hoot and tries the tired act there.

its good to see that brett would trash any remaining reputation he had on the way out the door. i hope this doesnt bring up his other demons and addictions. of course, brett on celebrity rehab would be nice.

Jets intertested in Favre? No kidding. They are probably still interested in Namath coming back.

August 6, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Jets are interested in anyone who is better than Pennington.

August 6, 2008  08:18 AM ET

I agree with Vaughn9...

August 6, 2008  08:20 AM ET

Not happening Jet: Favre would never play for such an f-ed up team.

August 6, 2008  08:21 AM ET

The Jets should be doing everything in their power to get Farve... think of the attention they would steal from the Giants... and the new stadium they are building, they could use the re-newed interest in the Jets that this would bring...

plus Farve vs Manning vs Brady..... this division all of a sudden looks real tough...

August 6, 2008  08:38 AM ET

no, no, no, no ... no more Favre
no more Favre
no more Favre

oh, and did I mention ... NO MORE FAVRE!!!!!

August 6, 2008  08:58 AM ET

" But we have full confidence in Chad that he can get the job done.".....Mangini

At 12 million a year? No thanks. Dr Jay, about Favre getting hurt, you should take a look at the Jets' refurbished O-Line, they're actually looking very good.

August 6, 2008  09:28 AM ET

He needs to go to the team with the most Sunday Night games so John Madden can make love to him with words

August 6, 2008  09:34 AM ET

I can't believe he would go to the Jets. Wouldn't that be like starting your career over?

August 6, 2008  09:44 AM ET

It seems to me when a legendary QB such as Favre who spent most of his career on one team going to another team IS like starting your career over. IE: Joe Montana.

August 6, 2008  09:46 AM ET

"What's worth than Favre news?", you might ask. Well here you have it, a Favre-Jets sandwiched news.

August 6, 2008  10:29 AM ET

Usually, when a new player comes on board a team, there is an adjustment period where he tries to adpat to the team. Any team that gets Favre will need to adapt to his style, and not the other way around. If Favre were 30 YO, it would be worth it. A major offensive alteration that will last 2 years, maybe? The Jets are lucky not to get him.

August 6, 2008  11:03 AM ET

To jack inatlanta: What just over mediocre team are you talking about? Certainly not the Packers. QB aside they are one of the most well-rounded teams in every aspect of the game in the NFL.
You're just so used to watching your fathoms below mediocre Falcons that you simply have no measuring stick to judge from.

Bet you can't wait for Vick to come back and lead your team to glory, huh?

August 6, 2008  11:12 AM ET

No going to the Jets would be like finishing your career or is that the Raiders?

August 6, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Farve is going to the BUCS, this Jets talk is all BS
